Is true union of the churches even possible at this point? It seems like all attempts at union will need some compromise. False union won't cut it. I wish Christ's church never divided to begin. Now it is incredibly difficult for someone entering the faith to discern which Church is true.

St. Neketary of Optina (last Optina elder) said this, which was written down in the now out of print book of his life: "Once N. Pavlovich asked the Elder, "Is it possible to hope for the unification of the churches?" He replied, "No! Only an Ecumenical Council could do that, but there will be no more councils. There have been seven councils, like the seven sacraments and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. For our age, the number of fullness is the number seven. Eight is the number of the future age. Only separate people will be united to our Church." -Elder Nektary of Optina, page 182. Certainly conflicts with what figures like Fr. Peter Heers etc are saying.

I don’t hate the Old Calendarists But we have seen their fruits. More and more schism from within, and scandal after scandal. It turns out that schism doesn’t solve anything.

I'm a Catechumen so I'm not qualified to answer this question, I would suggest taking this to your local Orthodox Priest. The Orthodox Church is against Ecumenism, in KZbin Search "saints against ecumenism" and that'll lead you closer to the truth. May the Lord be with you.

Part of this situation is that these Orthodox hierarchs represent merely themselves and a rather small group of "politicians" who see their chance to be near a new elite. Kyrie eleison!

That's not how the Church works. Bishops are the structure of the Church, a real bishop doesn't act merely on "their own opinion". If they are doing heretical and blasphemes things and no other bishops are standing up and calling them out, in time (it doesn't take long), that body will sever itself from the Church. Like Rome did and like world Orthodoxy has done over the last century.
