I hope my doctors didn't need years of practice to learn the difference between a babys heartbeat of >130 bpm and an adults of 80+/- bpm

Your placenta and your baby’s heartbeat can often have a similar sound that is separate to the blood flow to the uterus. If you are accidentally listening to your placenta it doesn’t tell you anything about the wellbeing of your baby

@theobgynmum The beat of the placenta may sound similar, but it's easy to hear the difference, even for not medical trained people. The placenta has kind of a windy sound. Of course you need special medical training to interpret if the baby is healthy. Some woman are very fearful while pregnancy and just want to know that the baby's still alive and for this purpose the fatal doppler is perfect. Regardless it's necessary to go to the checkups and when the woman has a bad feeling and is unsure she should go to the hospital.

Well this didn’t make me want to change my mind. So many people use these & have absolutely no issue. The baby’s heartbeat is higher than mom’s heart so it doesn’t take a genius to know this. Just buy the Doppler… it’ll give you reassurance. ❤

Aren’t baby heart rates dramatically higher
@nikkifenton30182 ай бұрын
Yes significantly unless like me you have SVT where my heart goes super fast but my heart rate generally around 80 babies is 160 so quite a difference

It literally sounds completely different…

But is it dangerous to the baby?
@theobgynmum9 ай бұрын
The device uses ultrasound so no that’s not harmful, but there is no benefit to the baby of using the device either and the potential harm of misdiagnosing a heartbeat is significant

so basically we dont need to get confused… not a good enough reason for me to

How are you a doctor while saying that the two heart rates can sound similar? Sound would also imply the rate at which the heart beats. So a 160bpm reading could be the mothers heart beat? This is crazy
