Quotes- In a general conference address in April 1972, Elder Ezra Taft Benson stated: “God, the Father of us all, uses the men [and women] of the earth, especially good [people], to accomplish his purposes. It has been true in the past, it is true today, it will be true in the future.” Elder Benson then quoted the following from Elder Orson F. Whitney in a 1928 general conference: “Perhaps the Lord needs such [persons] on the outside of His Church to help it along. They are among its auxiliaries, and can do more good for the cause where the Lord has placed them, than anywhere else. . . . Some are drawn into the fold and receive a testimony of the truth; while others remain unconverted. . . the beauties and glories of the gospel being veiled temporarily from their view, for a wise purpose. The Lord will open their eyes in His own due time.” Now note this particularly poignant message: “God is using more than one people for the accomplishment of His great and marvelous work. The Latter-day Saints cannot do it all. It is too vast, too arduous for any one people.”

I’m so glad I listen to you two every week! I work at a Jewish preschool. We celebrate all the Jewish holidays. I love seeing how their celebration is included in the Bible and I can celebrate too. I have never learned where Sukkot comes from though. They build a Sukka on the playground and the children eat lunch under it. Now I know, and I’m so excited to celebrate Sukkot this year!

Emily, thank you so much for repeating the timeline in your own words, the Old Testament is very new to me, and these couple of lessons are a little bit confusing to me because many things were going on in that period of history, it was nice that I could hear it one more time in details as I was writing those notes on my scriptures.

LOVED what you said about being a builder. I received a blessing once that said many in heaven were happy at my birth because "the first wave of builders was begun". I believe I'll have a hand in building Zion physically (however that could be, and I certainly won't be the first!) but I have to take seriously the charge to build Zion in myself, in my family, and in my community through whatever reach I have first. We all have that charge! This lesson made me think of it as such a happy task instead of a solemn one!

I love this so much. We have a Persian branch in our stake in CA that is thriving. There is a gathering of the Persian people, and they must be so thrilled to be studying the history of King Cyrus and Xerxes, as members of the church. These Kings played a significant part in the gathering then, and the gathering we are seeing today.

Did anyone else make a connection between Pres. Nelson & Zerubbabel? He was raised in a home without the gospel (perhaps a stretch, but could be considered a Babylon, "outside of the covenant.") He has called for the Restoration & Rebuilding of the Salt Lake Temple's foundation. He also encourages everyone to be a part of the Gathering, on both sides of the veil (so, also like Joshua, I suppose?, but perhaps there is another who will be tasked with leading the Gathering portion on this great work - Elder Cook, Elder Uchtdorf, Elder Stevenson heading up the Love, Share, Invite initiatives?) Just thoughts rolling around in my head right now. Whether these current leaders are THE candlesticks talked about by John the Revelator, or just more "types & shadows" of those final "annointed ones," we'll just have to wait & see. Either way, I love that we are invited to be a part of the Gathering & Restoring, along with all these prophets! I want to be a builder!

Make no little plans. They have no magic to stir men's blood and probably will not themselves be realized. Make big plans, aim high in hope and work, remembering that a noble, logical diagram once recorded will never die, but long after we are gone will be a living thing, asserting itself with ever growing insistency. Remember that our sons and grandsons are going to do things that would stagger us. Burnham, Daniel H., and Edward H. Bennett. Plan of Chicago. 1909, 40-42. (Highway Planning)
