This is great. I'm being the DM of a 4th edition game (that was the system I was the most familiar with among the easy ones for new player). If I had been familiar with the 5th, I might have tried it. But well. As for encounters, I have all of my encounters ready (I made them for the first arc of our campaign), but I put those on a map of the region I made, and each day that passes, I roll dices to determine if they continue in the same direction and make them move roughly the same distance, so they stay dynamic and I don't know which encounter my players will find next.

For players in games that track food and water, but you don't want to have to worry about it, try to convince your caster to take the Magnificent Mansion spell, I think it's level 7, and it gives you the ability to summon an extra deminsional mansion that has 100 servants and enough food and drink for a 9 course banquet for up to 100 people, and it lasts for 24 hours so you can rest in it

Real quick: In situations where keeping track of the passage of time is important, the DM determines the time a task requires. The DM might use a different time scale depending on the context of the situation at hand. In a dungeon environment, the adventurers' movement happens on a scale of minutes. It takes them about a minute to creep down a long hallway, another minute to check for traps on the door at the end of the hall, and a good ten minutes to search the chamber beyond for anything interesting or valuable.

Why does padded Armor (a linen/woolen gambeson) have disadvantage on stealth, but leather does not? Ever seen a leather body suit, shit squeaks with every single movement. Don't even get me started with how then adding little metal studs to that is still quieter than a gambeson.

Quick note: most ranged weapons rely on Dexterity, but Thrown weapons are like finesse weapons; you can choose to use either Strength or Dexterity for the attack and damage rolls. Load up on some darts, daggers, or handaxes and put the hurt on those pesky flying foes! ... hey, i know they do 1d4 mostly, but its either that or stand around being angry at nothing dumb enough to be in your reach.
@DontStopThinking
@DontStopThinking 6 жыл бұрын
Only dagger is the only finesse melee weapon that lets you use strength or dexterity to throw. Melee weapons with thrown property like handaxes, light hammer and spears require you to use strength when thrown. Conversely darts is the only ranged weapon with finesse property that lets you throw it with strength or dexterity. But if you have feature like martial arts that let you attack with another ability, then you can also you that other ability instead.

Hit dice aren't the same as a weapon's damage dice. You can spend hit dice at the end of a short rest to recover some hit points by rolling them. You only get about half of them back at the end of a long rest (minimum of 1).

I have been thinking, in terms of game mechanics why would your character ever eat every day. Also rules for drinking half of the amount needed seems a bit strange to have as I feel like not drinking at all and recovering the exhaustion next day would be better option when running low on water. What are you guys thinking about those and have you done some changes? I am running a game with some survival themes myself so these could be relevant soon enough
