As someone who does silversmithing (nothing like an overstressed heavy silver shank exploding under the torch) I'm gonna make a wild-assed guess. The good quality wheel along with its forging had some kind of heat treatment after, to remove the forging stress from the metal, reduce the brittleness. The cheap cast one... didn't. Both the way it shattered and the quality of the broken surface reminded me a lot of the last time I forgot to re-anneal a shank before trying to solder it while in a soldering ring clamp.

3:26 Before my dad died he was one of the engineers that worked on the seats for all hondas from ~ 2015 - 2020 (and all the unreleased stuff like the new civic type r which was the last car he worked on) Never buy cheap seats. The reason Bride's, sparco's, recaro's etc are so expensive is mostly the name (fun fact: they are cheaper to make than the folding, heated seat you are replacing) but also they are crash tested, thoroughly. If you get into a crash in a rep seat you will probably end up with severe spinal injuries or just dead. Being FIA certified on a road car seat is overkill but always make sure it is certified by your regions automotive safety authority (for example euro ncap).

OEM wheels can be hit or miss, depending on manufacturer and specific wheel. Wheels generally don't get made by the car manufacturer but by an outside brand. It does occur OEM's go to low end wheel manufacturers to get their wheels produced (example: Rota has produced OEM wheels), but generally speaking OEM's tend to stick to higher quality producers when it comes to wheels.

Construction and quality is less important than sidewall height for impacts, and unless you're running those on a Truck/SUV, a pothole can easily wreck your shit. Forged or not, aluminum is way more likely to fracture than steel and performance-oriented wheels will sacrifice thickness for weight over OEM. A pothole badly bent our 2019 Kia's 17" OEM wheel, and it was a total bitch trying to find a place to repair it to my surprise. I would've rather it had the 16s since low profile tires ride like absolute shit for minimal gains and bigger wheels just add needless weight.

@@aaronthomas6155 the material aluminium I'm not saying isn't up to the task, but you're willing to cheap out on wheels that frequently crack or shatter under normal use or that aren't constructed to a certain safety standard, thats your choice, the aluminium seat I can't talk for or against since I don't have the experience, but if you cheap out on a seat, that's your back potentially getting broken in a crash,

honestly, i dont see a big problem with buying knock off parts, with the exception of safety equipment (seats, helmets, harness' etc) i think there's a place, sometimes people who dont make lots of money just want to make their cars look nice and unique, and in order for them to achieve that, a cheap knock off bodykit or replica wheels or whatever fill that demands, i know buying legit supports the actual designers and creators of these parts, but sometimes thats either not possible if they're rare parts, or just way out of budget for any regular joe

BRIDE seats are super unique when it comes to knock offs. Basically there's an ACTUAL real company named BRIDE that makes seats but isn't the original BRIDE. apparently they allowed their trademark to lapse in some country, and some madman had the bright idea to buy it and send it on these "knock offs". It's all legal, there, and it's weird as heck when you look into it

@@jdmglobalwarehouse It figures it would be East Asia. Trademark & copyright laws over there are a giant clusterf***. Even more than they are in the west. Just as one example, in Japan animation studios & production companies are almost pathologically afraid of even saying the name of a different show that they don't own (or isn't owned by who they are working for), to the point where they will literally bleep it out like a swear. They are afraid of being sued due to the way copyright works there. Read up on this kind of stuff and it becomes clear that copyright as well as trademark, is a giant mess over in that region. Which becomes even messier when you add the international market into things. addendum: with anime it is not as if they have an editor bleeping things out in post. They will actually script them this way and it is usually done tongue-in-cheek. But the point remains the same, they bleep it out to avoid getting in trouble. addendum 2: I hope you enjoyed my pun at the beginning. I am never sorry for my puns.

Well I imagine if they their trademarked lapsed in the US, it would be a non-issue because they can show they were first to use it in commerce and continued using it during the period that it lapsed. They could just protest the person being approved for the trademark. What they should do is sue the other company for copyright infringement because the fake seat has a similar design to theirs (and every other racing seat, but the point is to financially hurt the counterfeiter and prevent them from continuing production of that style of seat).
