I think most of the song he is being reserved with tiny glimpses of emotion especially in the 2nd verse. He was hiding how he truly felt or sugar coating it. At the end he finally shows his emotion which brings peace inside him.

This one is my favorite. This one came out before the I'm Not a Vampire Revamped video so when he's sitting at the piano he's wearing Vampire fangs as a hint to the next one which was the Vampire Revamped. The way Ronnie reinterpreted the guitar solo in those 2 songs were genius. I ❤️FIR

This version shows you just how dark the lyrics really are. It's as if the toxic relationship IS his drug, and he can't seem to let it go. It's almost hopeless and low-key angry, even before the drop at the end. He resents how he feels and the things he does, but seems powerless to let it go. This could apply to any number of issues in a person's life, so it's immensely relatable.

Ronnie had explained that it’s about his mirrored self. That he IS the drug. That he’s the one who destroyed him. That no one could save him but him (pre Willow obviously) but he said his songs and lyrics are always open to interpretation.

"classic rock" is indeed a genre, but I'd say it's "classic" as in "original" rather than "classical"--it's the rock music from the 1980s. Though there definitely is rock music that incorporates classical instruments! I just don't know if it has a genre name 🤔

Sean Rooney, an Irish composer did the piano arrangement and sent it to Ronnie and he loved it and decided to do this version. It is Sean playing on the track, Ronnie wanted him to do it, but Ronnie absolutely can and has played this and he does it exactly the same. Ronnie took that arrangement and added strings and everything else you hear in this composition.

You are hearing Sean Rooney on the studio recording. However, based on reactions from people who play the piano, Ronnie is actually playing the song in the video. Especially on the piano (used to be guitar) solo. I read that you have to actually sing while recording a video, even if the studio recording is playing, or it looks fake. It is probably the same thing with the piano. If he wasn't actually playing, it would look fake. You just aren't hearing what he was doing in the video.
