You said it perfectly, you have to be willing to understand him. It’s simple.. starting from the beginning.. his whole catalog is connected.. it’s like watching the last movie of a trilogy .. you won’t fully understand it unless you watched all movies in order.. that’s why it’s called NF journey.. his songs will take you on a rollar coaster of emotions but it’s worth it. And his whole mixtape is 🔥🔥 you know it’s a great album when everyone has a different favorite.. layers, prideful is my top choice. But yeah I’m here for the NF videos

“The one trick pony’s here so quit your sulking.” Is a dig at rolling stone. His last album The Search beat out Chance the Rapper on the billboard charts and rolling stone wrote a SCATHING article saying how NF’s music is depressing (it isnt) and he only talks about sad stuff (he doesn’t. He’s a rapper. Sometimes he just has sick flow patterns and bars) and he’s a one trick pony. So he wrote Paid My Dues which kicked off this mixtape. Originally it was supposed to be an album but covid hit and he didn’t want to not be able to tour the album bc he mixes all concepts to the stage so he did a mixtape instead. PMD is an example of things that won’t make sense out of order. All locations and items he is wearing are things from his prior music videos. He has Tech N9ne and Hopsin on this mixtape. NF doesn’t swear if you can’t tell. He hasn’t ever sworn. Tech and Hopsin didn’t out of respect to him bc they really like him. He’s a good dude. His producer is Tommee Profitt. He’s done about 98 percent of all NF beats ever. He’s actually a cinematic beat maker so he makes movie preview beats and NF has adopted that cinematic beat style to his music. That’s all he uses really. Amazing beats. Tommee did a video on making this beat and another well known NF song The Search. Sorry for the novel. Trying to catch you up :)

I appreciate you understanding their is a hidden meaning in the bars. Here is my take. I think each scene represents how the mainstream and hip hop community respond to NF. At first nobodies around. He's dreaming of this. Humble beginnings. Then he pops on the scene but the little girl won't give him a high5, so he hi-5's himself. Everybody is like who is this guy. Then he breaks onto the scene and the critics crush him. But he says he is far from brittle, he is unbreakable which is a reference to the movie where Bruce Willis is Unbreakable and he battles Brittle. But NF does the impossible, he succeeds! Then they become incredulous, like the food scene. The rap scene becomes petrified and threatens him with a butter knife (that is because their threats are meaningless to NF. He doesn't give a shit about them and of course Hollywood). He crashes the scene and takes what he wants, does what he wants and it burns down the house. Then he shows he is above them, and he is not going to change. No Hollywood. Finally he is in his own lane, going against the flow, and the other rappers are crashing all around him. This whole video is "tongue-in-cheek" and goes along with the visuals and the lyrics. He leaves a wreck behind him. He is a disruptive force. He says his ideas are astronomical, but he really doesn't take himself that seriously. Although he takes his work very seriously. And I definitely see a reference to Intro 1". He is doing the impossible. Actually I think the bars "No weight to his name" and "one-trick-pony" are a reference to the quote from the Rolling Stone article that dissed The Search album. This whole song is summed up in the last verse and then everything makes sense. He is explaining that he is different, he is moving up, he will not change, he drives in his own lane, he goes against the flow, you better get out of his way. Interesting, I think a lot of this song ties into Intro. You just got a new sub from another NF Reaction addict.

NF has evolved, up in the clouds (many references in previous songs) pops in and out of different dimensions, realities through out the song. The entire Mixtape is about going through all the work, emotions, pouring out all his past trauma in previous songs and an open book which has this in turn help thousands if not millions of others to walk with him to process all the stuff we never want to deal with because it's to painful. By being as honest as possible and battling his burdens that keep us trapped in the loop of programming he has past through another door.

I used to comment on NF reactions that whom ever was reacting needed the subtitles on to be able to understand NF's lyrics and how he builds stories. Now I think, "Put the subtitles on so when you lose your shit over NF's most recent deconstruction of rap lyrics AND rap videos, IE "Clouds", you can at least go back and actually listen to the lyrical science he is inventing with every single track. So you watch the video without subtitles... amazing. Listen to the song without the video... amazing. Watch the video AFTER hearing the song and WITH the subtitles....... Holy fuck who is this person?.... NF. That's who.

I know this is 9 months late, but the Song clouds runs parallel with teh music video and the things he talks about. what i gather from this track is about him sticking to his style. If you have been listening to NF for a while fans will remember back in either Mansion and Therapy Session he talks about how people think he should change his style to the scene that hes in thus the transition to the pool table/bar he doesnt fit in and takes center of attention also back in his first albums he talks about how parents think that his music is violent and shouldnt be listened to thus the transition to the scene where hes trying to calm down the family but ultimately has to run because they wont listen and finally hes feeling bad ass and connected with god as he leaves every place more destroyed than when he arrives and is found in the clouds towards the end of the video hes eluding to his past albums/tracks and how the problems that he had back then are still prevalent now even with the fame but the line that draws this all together is where he says “can push all you want aint movin an inch” in simple terms he is who his is and wont change for anything

The song is about him rising to where he is now with no INDUSTRY support. His fan base and you tube were able to show case his music and he has proved the industry wrong. He is one of the best and does it without cursing…without talking about useless counter productive crap. His music is Real…..Real music…..his videos are bar none….wait till you watch Story….Oscar worthy….welcome to the NF family. The other comments are correct. You really need to start at the Mansion album and go from there up. That is the way to understand NF. Plus his vids all tie together into one rolling movie…incredible production. You can kind of look at it as a positive that you don't really understand his music fully because he himself has a lot of mental issues like OCD and depression and a lot of his music is aimed at people like him. Like myself I have ASD or autism spectrum disorder, PTSD or post-traumatic stress disorder, MDD or major depressive disorder and severe generalized anxiety disorder. I'm also a husband and a father just like him and we're around the same age. His music resonates with me in a very positive way it makes me feel like I'm not alone and that even though I'm messed up I can do whatever I want just like any normal person I just have to apply myself a little harder and it's going to be tougher for me then most but I can still do it and NF makes me believe in that.

Clouds is about NF flexing and telling how he is so overlooked by the entire industry. He’s a really humble guy so we don’t get to hear him flex often but when he does, this is the kind of lightening that we get! Every song on the mixtape can stand alone (all of them 🔥 ) but none will take the place of what people call “The Journey “ and will make this make sense. I’m someone who doesn’t push the journey. Go in whatever order you want. The journey is cool but there is plenty stuff that doesn’t really connect or that you don’t need the connection. Since you are trying to figure it out, At the least, I think you should do, in this order, Intro, Mansion, Intro 2 , Outro and Intro 3. Then add in title track from Therapy Session, The Search and Leave me Alone. That will fill in a lot of the missing pieces without doing the entire “journey “. If you haven’t yet, I’d love if you’d do “Paid My Dues”. It’s on the mixtape but was really a single release after The Search album. It is my 2nd favorite song by NF, after Trust. It won’t spoil anything and will only help you with the lyrics if you read one of the articles he’s responding to in the song. Here is the rolling stone article. I hope you read it first to have context. He raps like a beast in Paid My Dues. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-album-reviews/nfs-the-search-is-a-one-note-depression-symphony-872720/
