When I ran this game, I did so with an immense amount of passion, and then to see so many people recognizing this and feeling the vibes I felt at the time is a really great feeling. Very well done! A spectacle of movement skill being displayed. I play doom 3 like that too and sometimes I feel like John and the devs meant for it to be played fast-paced from the get go, like a choice players can make whether they want it nice and slow with a story to match, or doom guy slaying demons like its nothing. I also feel that nightmare difficulty greatly enhances that idea. Thank you for such finesse given, your gameplay is unforgettable.

Initially skipping cutscenes in the BFG editing only works with a source port called RBDOOM3BFG which is used in this speedrun.

That is quite a common question. When you play Doom 3 on Nightmare, you have the Soul Cube from the start because your health drops by 5 points every 5 seconds until you have 25 hp and there are no health packs to pick up. If you want to heal, you can only use health stations or the Soul Cube to do so. This coincidentally comes in handy with taking care of some enemies more efficiently.

It is not a hard skip in the BFG Edition, you will get it. /g_fov 120 Adjust the number to your liking.

I don't know why you would because it does not control well but I'm curious if anyone has My first playthrough of this game on PS3 took me 13 hours, I was playing on Veteran & now I'm playing on Nightmare & holy shit it's like a different game. Haha. Yeah to my knowledge I don't think anyone has done speedruns on console. It would be impossible to implement strafejumping and very hard to do rocketjumps on nightmare since you need very precise timing on each one to not blow yourself up and controllers mostly have huge input delay compared to keyboards. The ticking down health really does make a difference, that is true. I imagine a console run would be a lot slower.

Thank you :). I might retry it at one point, but for now, I am ok with the current time because I'm not sure if I am ready for another month of grinding every day. As for the Delta 2A skip: there is a leftover end level trigger that you can reach by rocketjumping. I am guessing it is a developer oversight. Whatever the case, it is very useful :).

Noob question. How do you get those 1 hit shotty kills on the armored undead? I sometimes get lucky but most of the time require 2 shots, even while point blank at the head and moving forward.

I guess you mean the Mars Sec gibberish talking shotgun and machinegun dudes. You just gotta come very close and hit as much in the middle as possible so that the shotgun spread does not matter much.

You can better, just use jump like Corpseflesh Any% Nightmare Delta 3 grenade+rocket it is -39 sec, good game

thanks. if you thought i had not spent 4-5 hours trying that jump in all possible combinations you are wrong. this is literally the best and most consistent strat that i came up with since there is almost no scenario where that jump works without a grenade. the rockets just dont do anything there. it is hard to explain. go try it and you will see 😀

Thank you! My speedruns are generally full of useless tics. So it is mostly just passing time and rounding up ammo. I feed my OCD, so to speak :D. The one on 10:24 is a legitimate strategy though. I kill the guy carrying the BFG so I can take it.

@@cvdheyden definitely the most annoying keyboard I have ever used. I got it as a gift so I kinda had to use it for a while. It also had a bug where if you pressed 3 keys at once, it would just stop all inputs for a second. 💀

Watching this game being this "bright" hurts my brain. What has happened here? It looks disfigured. Is this just "low settings" to maximize FPS ?

This run was done 4 years ago. Back then I played on a CRT. Those monitors reflect light off their glass panels and when you have any source of light behind you, which was the Sun in my case, then you can't see anything. Even closing the blinds didn't help that much. Brightening the game up to some degree was the only option for me to see properly. Add that to the fact that the BFG edition of Doom 3 looks brighter by itself, and you get this. Looking back at it now, it looks disgusting to me too 😂. In my newer speedrun, 54:54, I made sure the game looks more like the OG game. I even made it a bit darker than default.

How to you go from delta labs a to b just by trying to kill yourself in an entrance with a rocket!? WTF? 39:00 Many strange stuff starting from your seemly impossible movements. lmao

There is a leftover end level trigger in that corner of the room that I rocketjump into at 39:00. Try the same thing yourself and you will see that it works. The way I rocket jump into the trigger is deliberate because if I just shoot a rocket directly underneath me on Nightmare, I will kill myself. Same goes for other rocket jump in the run like in Recycling 2 to skip the Mancubus fight (31:44) and Delta 1 to go back via the broken elevator (37:28). Another example of the same trick: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oICnnIOMqMeNqpo The fast movement is a combination of a few things, I believe - in the BFG edition, movement is faster than in the original Doom 3 from 2004 + I know what I am doing when strafe jumping and bunny hopping and managing stamina by releasing Sprint in the air to extend stamina as long as possible. The other thing that could also be contributing to the illusion of speed is FOV. The default field of view in the original Doom 3 is 90 or even less. This run was played on 120 FOV. This gives off the illusion of faster movement since the corners of the screen seem to be moving faster because of the fact that you can see them from a perspective that looks further away.
