Hi Mike! Thanks for streaming D32XR on your channel the second time! I can't stress enough that using a 6-button controller would elevate the experience so much higher though! And you'd also map the shoulder buttons on the more modern controllers to left and right strafing which would make it even more awesome :D

There's a cool doom wad called 10 sectors that was created from taking the 30 best maps from a map making contest back in 2000. I played through it this month and thought it was really good...definitely worth checking out sometime.

I play this version all the time. Thanks to Mike for the tip about how to move with the map up, since I did not know about this until now. I play on original hardware with the game on an EEPROM cart. i use the Genesis 6 button controller so it's X - prev weapon, Y next weapon, Z map, A run, B shoot, C hold-to-strafe and use. It seems like A+start would not be handy to change weapons in a hurry. Yes, the PC is way better, but i like it for 2 reasons: easily playable on the couch, and also holy crap this is on the Genesis 32X.

Holding down B and pressing UP or DOWN scales the map. Another pro tip: holding down MODE and pressing A/B/C/X/Y/Z/START switches to a specific weapon

I know it's Doom Month, but we do need November to be Rampart month. Rampart is the ultimate doom. It has Tetris elements, mixed with tower defense and a dollop of real-time action.

This looks great for the 32X. I was a fan of it way back in the day as a cheap way to expand an already owned console after it failed to sell well. I was disappointed that the 32X never had many games and then the Sega CD came out, but even in combination, failed to do what the Sony Playstation readily became. The other problem in the 90's was Open GL hardware acceleration on the PC coupled with the mouse and keyboard for First Person Shooters just erased the competition. N64 was great in it's own way, but FPS on a gamepad was too much the trade off for me in the long run. I still struggle a little with First Person Shooters with a gamepad today, but I've improved enough to make it fun to visit them again. So I'm doing much like you've been doing and revisiting old games on favorite platforms on my PC with a emulators and a gamepad. I'm also doing PC games too, including Doom! I only briefly played it back in the day, starting with Wolfenstein 3D, with just basically an intro into Doom and Quake, but really right into the beloved Quake II. I had a the keyboarded PC and an analog gamepad PS Quake II, but no Open GL, speed, memory, or mouse setup on my PC, so the Playstation played Quake II better at the moment. Then my best friend showed me his new hand built gaming PC with an AGP ATI video card in HD Open GL with a proper mouse and keyboard setup to look, move, and strafe in Quake II in comparison to a PS controller in composite video, and my life changed forever. Other than Final Fantasy type games and some Nintendo 64 titles, I gave up on the console forever, spending my next big check on buying all the parts and building my first new affordably top notch gaming PC in 1997! Now I'm in my early 40's with a decent PC looking back on the classics like Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Quake 2, Unreal, and the Half-Life trio and I love them all! I think I was really detracted to the original games that wouldn't let you look up and down with the mouse, or lacked hardware acceleration, but now those things don't bother me much, if at all. In fact now I'm sort of appreciating and sensing a charm in the older graphics while enjoying the extra challenge of forcing myself to adapt to the awkward older controls and details, although it can end up being a challenge that I can't win to not quit before I want to. Same with the N64 Emulator, checking out the Zelda games I never tried as a much younger human, along with many other original titles, and loving them oh so much in HD on my PC now. Anyway, I've gone through the Doom on PC last week making it up to the last stage on the last level on medium and I totally see why this is such a beloved game that I'll play again and again when I get to the end of Duke Nukem 3D I just started a couple days ago. I'll admit it's getting real tough in the Lunar Apocalypse real quick, whatever... COME GET SOME!

It's really impressive how well this version of DOOM runs on 32X. It runs better than the Saturn version, plus it has the OG soundtrack. This is so much better than the original 32X version. I wonder if that's due to the engine source code for DOOM being freely available now. Maybe it's seen lots of performance improvements / bug fixes. Or maybe the dev tools / compilers / debuggers are better these days and that's the reason this port is so good. Or maybe the 32X hardware was actually more powerful than people realized and they weren't able to make full use of it back then. The add-on didn't have a long life after all, and usually it takes years before developers are able to really make full use of a console. The only other console port that can compete with this version is the PS1 version from back in the day, I think.

I always remember the standard punch Cyberdemon you did. I actually wanted to check it out again. Thanks for sharing your opinion about Berserk man, wish Pistol was better. You also showed me Eviternity, and that wad has faster firing Pistol. That's such a great Doom, a little tough for me with Brutal Doom, but a fun challenge for UV Pistol start single state save. If you didn't show 32X Doom, I would have never seen it. Thanks for archiving footage of it man. Keep dooming, it's always fun to watch you play.

This new 32X Doom version is pretty impressive. It runs faster, it has directional sprites and cool renditions of the original music. The only issue is the occasional graphic glitches, you can see these on the automap too, when some random lines appear out of nowhere. Maybe it's because of the MiSTer, and it doesn't happen on real hardware.

Dude! I PLAYED Project Brutality! Berzerk almost rivals the BFG9000! You know why? Remember Piston Hurricane? PB's "secondary" mode of fire is your OTHER fist! Plus you can wail BOTH arms as fast as you can; enough to make even Piston blush! I was surprised how quick I simply beat a Hell Knight that way, and became addicted to that method of dishing out pain since! (As long as I actually played! XD) I also grew up on the PC version - I just happened to be WEANED on 32X DOOM! XD As for "Doom Month"? C'mon, people! He's only playing what 32X Doom SHOULDA been; GIVVIM A BREAK 'ERE!

I agree that the number of 'Come' comments on Mike's comment sections are a little high. The evidence for this is very clear at this point, what is interesting is that despite a rise in quality comments equating to almost 47% since last October, the come comments have also risen, maintaining a 7-to-1, come-to-quality ratio. The interesting question is whether this ratio is a fundamental law of the universe or merely a function of the falling standard of human intelligence in correlation with internet proliferation. I'm actually writing a paper on this for my Masters Thesis, I'll be happy to give you a copy when it's done, the results should be quite fascinating.

mike, you talked about maybe playing warioland 4. I finished it multiple times as a kid when it was new and really enjoyed it. its one of that games that stuck to my brain even all these years later. Very creative levels, good controls and visuals. It has a hard mode you can pick from the beginning. I would like to see you play it.

Here's an old PS1( maybe Saturn as well) game that was supposed to be crystal dynamics answer to starfox, im not sure I've seen you play. "total eclipse turbo" wasn't good wasn't bad but was really damn hard and a almost a weird dark copy of starfox 😁

Mike, you've played Contra Doom, Castlevania Doom, Zelda Doom You should play Mega Man Doom Mega Man 8 Bit Death Match. It replaces everything with Mega Man enemies and sprites and weapons. It's got a campaign mode and a competitive fps mode. It's very good
