@@mattjackson I have experimented with several solo styles, and in most I found a full party unwieldy, but your White box version looks very playable.

I really like the way you simplified the attributes and skill tests. It's something I've never thought of but will definitely use going forward.

Yay! Another solo rpg live play! One of these days I'm going to film one and post it. Thanks for your content and your clear explanation and stuff. Wish I could keep my Solo Space as neat as you do! 👍 Amazing map! You have skills! BTW, The Perilous Wilds is the best supplement EVER!!!! You can literally run an entire adventure campaign out of only that little book. It really should be an award winner.

Divorced old dude and the kids are out of the house. Easy to keep it clean when it’s me and the dogs! I stalled posting mine forever until my friend Joe kept bugging about how I did this solo. I kept seeing all these people post videos with complex rules and 500 tables. I just felt like there needed to be someone else showing an easier way to play.

Interesting that you acknowledge that most characters are only going to have one ability/attribute that counts at all. The wonderful OSR game Pits & Perils has this built in. Instead of rolling numbers for each, you roll for an attribute, period (if you’re extremely lucky, two). Great system that bypasses all this… so your PC is just Strong or Wise…. Heheh. Clever stuff. I think ya might dig Pits & Perils, actually. Much of the game system takes other, similar ‘shortcuts’ to fun. (I, myself still like ability checks, because I enjoy a smart fighter and a beefy fighter and a charismatic fighter…..and an urban-raised fighter and a rural fighter (after they’ve scratched out super short and simple backgrounds)…and how all that affects the game and them….)

Your idea of a single exceptional attribute, and attributes in general, is brilliant. You really should make your character sheets available somewhere.

Would you please list off the books you're using for this adventure? I'm getting set up for some solo gaming, and looking for the types of books that you're using in this video. Thank you!

Good morning Mr Jackson I was very happy watching a video of Mr. Chaoclypse inspired by his beautiful single attribute mode for White box, so I thought I would write you my question here: I am trying to understand the important points to start my play with his single attribute mode. I am using the referee screen of White box well open in front of me. I start like this: -I'll roll a D6 and choose the single, main attribute, to this I'll assign a +1 bonus. Anything I attempt that requires the use of probability on a D6 will benefit from this bonus. Right? Now I was wondering , with this mode based on White box I can practically always use the base of 1 probability on D6 as a skill test for many things? Being able to use bonuses based on the character's background when possible? P.s. sorry for my bad English In summary: Is there a short description of this mode? My compliments 👏

I also give a +1 at 4th level and again at 8th level. My thinking is adventurers should grow over time and become more proficient in ‘adventuring skills’.

Matt how do you handle getting lost, I mean when soloing and when you play with your friends? How do you make it?
@mattjackson Жыл бұрын
If I had a ranger in the party I would likely test his Forestry ability to see if he was able to navigate the forest easily. I actually recently got ahold of a copy of Knock magazine and the issue had an interesting and shockingly easy hex exploratin mechanic using only a d6. I may use it in an upcoming episode. I would actually run it the exact same way, regardless if solo or running it at a table. I do not see why you would need to run it differently.

@@mattjacksonwow cool! I will wait for it :)) I mean the difference for example, imagine, the party get lost, and the GM doesn't tell players that they are lost, and they continue moving towards their goal, for example a river, and when they think they are at the right place, the DM says, well, actually no, you are not here, because you are lost, but I don't know how DM mechanically would move them in that case. and I mean when you play solo, you can't do this of course...
@mattjackson Жыл бұрын
I don’t know. I see a lot of people mention, or at least insinuate that you cannot be DM and player, that you somehow are unable to separate your actions. I think you just have be an adult about and make decisions “as a player” would not knowing what “the DM knows”.
