@Atrenu4 жыл бұрын
Maybe this could be one of the main tracks for the Doom game after Eternal (AKA Doom 3 of the new series)?
@AlfieBradic4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I experimented a lot with equipment for this. If you've seen Mick's GDC talk you'll have heard about his "change the process, change the outcome" ethos and I tried to apply that to everything I could. A lot of the drum sound is from an old drum machine I sampled. A lot of the synths are actually samples I made from guitar cable noise ran through some analog distortion. The outro synth sounds are also my guitar running hot into a virtual tape machine. Most of the electronic drums were made from scratch too. As for more basic things, I used Reaper as my DAW, GGD Invasion for cymbals and other drums, AxeFx for guitar processing with just a Fender Strat for most of the guitar parts. Trilian and Eurobass libraries for a lot of the bass stuff. I could go a lot deeper into it but that's a rough summary! If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer.

I dig it! Which guitar / tuning / gauges / amp are you using, out of curiosity?
@AlfieBradic4 жыл бұрын
Whoops, I thought you'd asked this on a different video and gave a different answer! This track I honestly don't remember what the tunings were but they were pretty stupid and changed depending on the section. None of it was designed to be playable in a coherent way, each riff was treated like a loop that was chopped up. Most of the guitar stuff is a Fender Strat but there are some extra guitars done with a 7 string Ibanez. All of it is pitch shifted because it's in 9 string territory. String gauge on the Fender is 13-56 but that's for Bb tuning and not much lower. Tone is AxeFx with some Thordendal, Friedman and Mesa amp models.
@iejelliott4 жыл бұрын
@@AlfieBradic Nice, thanks. Do you have any tips for pitch shifting? I have a 7 string in drop A and have struggled to achieve a good pitch-shifted tone.
@iejelliott4 жыл бұрын
@@AlfieBradic Ah, nevermind. I saw another comment where you said you pitched shifted in the AxeFX.
@AlfieBradic4 жыл бұрын
@@iejelliott General advice would be to pitch shift the dry signal before the amp. If it sounds muddy and loose you can tighten up the sound by removing some low end before the amp as well, either via a Tubescreamer style pedal or EQ. Pitch shifting only works well for single note lines so keep that in mind. If you want to pitch shift chords or multiple notes then it's often better to pitch shift post-amp but it will not sound as realistic. It's not an exact science and it usually sounds quite bad until it's mixed so don't be discouraged if the raw tone sounds crap.

Hey man. Me and a friend recently modified a minimod for classic Doom so as to create a whole, fan-made, Eternal inspired, free soundtrack, in which AlamanderArts, Bernaners, DPM and Nizro contributed. I'm proud to say that it was a big hit in the Project Brutality and Brutal Doom - Schism discord servers, and I uploaded a simpler version in Doomworld as well. I'd like to ask you to add this single track you made to the FANDOOM Eternal project, giving you the proper credit. What do you say?
