Doom Eternal - Horde Mode v1.0 by proteh [Nightmare]

Horde mode by proteh ( / proteh , my first clear on nightmare difficulty.
This was quite slow, probably could have played a bit more aggressive considering I had 6 extra lives left, but I wasn't sure for how long it was going to go on and how difficult the later parts would be.
And of course never enough destroyer blade, decided to go with arbalest most of the time because it's quicker and more effective against cacodemons and pain elementals which are probably the biggest threat.
Nightmare wasn't too bad with the extra lives for me, I had some silly deaths (loss of extra life) early on, but just a couple on the later part. Of course when you know what's ahead it gets a bit easier. Constant fear of crashes will make UNM a bit stressful though.
Had a couple of attempts before this one that crashed, if the game crashes you either go back to the start or probably go far back in the second part. So not quite my first attempt, but first attempt where I didn't crash.
I'll probably do another nightmare playthrough, just a bit faster.

How to play doom eternal: -learn to combo. -get into the rhythm of using your chainsaw. -if you don't need a glory kill then just shoot. -Unless it's an arch vile or an empowerment totem don't ever tunnel anything. Stay loose and mobile tearing chunks of health off the big guys over a long period of time. -jumping, dashing, shooting whatever, move in a circuit. When you think about it, it's just circle strafing in three dimensions. -always shoot the mayker drone in the head with sniper, ballista, or shotty grenade. -shotgun grenades are broken. Abuse them. -if you don't know how to cheese the marauder then deal with it patiently. -when in doubt, ice grenade - flame belch - chainsaw - explosive -super shotgun gives you wings -auto shotty, micro missiles, microwave beam and remote detonation are the least useful upgrades for regular combat. -always have a plasma gun fart at the ready. -blood punch the arch viles and the pinkies. -always have some kind of gaining high ground strategy while moving and stay airborne as much as possible. -if you are moving around and in/out of cover you don't really need to worry about missiles. -if you have the firepower, you dont have to focus on hitting weak points. Overwhelm. -BFG to greet the house, unmayker for a personal greeting. -unless there are blade charges everywhere the crucible is for tyrants and arch viles only. -rip -tear -shoot at it until it dies. -have fun.

Disagree on the micro missiles, they're great! I'm on console, and using the Sniper thing is really clunky. With the mastery, you don't have to worry about them running out. Also, focusing down enemies one by one is better than hitting everything all at once. Ballista/rocket/SSG to take out a mancubis, for example. You can use the first two from far away, then the meat hook to pull yourself into the mancubis for the last shot. jumping just before shooting will yeet you past the mancubis pretty far, too.

Love this. I was thinking of some ideas for crazy mods; I like the ridiculous set-ups the best like the room in Cultist Base with pillars to punch, revealing demons. I would like to see something like that but more extreme. Maybe something like a whole field of Imps with a few Cueballs, a century or legion of Barons and Tyrants etc etc with appropriate ammo? @TheBuragi The thing I love most about this is that most people in their reviews of doom eternal haven't even tried nightmare or ultra nightmare and they want to talk about how hard the game is. The base game has NO double marauder fights (which I personally wanted because I'm the doom guy, no demons gonna stop me), NO Double or even triple Archvile fights which I also wanted, NO rounds with about 20 hell nights dread nights prowlers doom hunters pinkies whiplashes mancini's and basically any enemy u can think of. This mod proves that the enemies of doom eternal are not only perfectly balanced with each other but also that it's very possible to fight nearly every demon in the game even with doubles or triples or buff totems. People just need to get good a video games doom eternal doesn't give out freebies. Amazing mod

A bit unfair considering the extreme skill ceiling doom eternal has, and the fact that Zeromaster broke it and sent it up into the sky. It would be like comparing the reading speed of a writer to that of a Toddler. One is much more skilled than the other and any comparison would be useless. I'm not saying people who say marauder is unrealistically difficult, on hurt me plenty or I'm too young to die difficulty, are correct. No, my first encounter with the marauder was on nightmare difficulty with only half of all the pickups available in previous levels and I beat him on my third attempt (on my first and second attempt, I didn't realize fodder enemies were being spawned and I sort of got blocked by them while running around the arena). Most people who are lay with arena fighters like Quake or Doom are probably very used to Halo type games, the duck and cover and use only 2 weapons at a time type of games. When they attempt to play doom in that fashion, they find some amount of success, and since they are always playing on anything but nightmare (ultra violence is for casuals), they are never truly pushed into a state where they are smashing their controller into their consoles and furiously searching up combat guides, quick swapping, and movement options during combat. The only other arena shooter I ever played besides doom eternal was doom 2016, and I started playing it only a few days before I got doom eternal. This experience of mine is very similar, if not exactly the same, to most of the other people who had troubles playing doom eternal. My only advantage was that I was already very, very bad at Halo type games. I used to play CS:GO, but I never found my footing within it and my muscle memory for CS:GO never really developed. The tutorial was barely helpful and taught me how to move my character, aim and shoot. It only taught me the most basic of things in just about any first-person pov game. This meant that when I entered Doom 2016 and Eternal, I had no preconceived notions of how an FPS plays, when to take cover, or when to engage. When Doom pushed me to use my mobility, alternate my weapons, whip out my chainsaw, etc, I never put up any resistance. The stuff in doom was not foreign, but it was not familiar. It was new. This equation of wither someone is good or bad at a game is not a simple yes or no. It is not a get gud or quit being bad. There is a lot more to uncover, a lot more to understand.

I think for this to really really work, the Marauders need to be reprogrammed to work in unison to ambush the player. For example one goes left to flank why the other rushes you. But it’s def amazing. I don’t understand why Id didn’t build this into the game with the DLC or at least announce a plan.
