Doom Eternal: Taras Nabad Master Level Classic Mode [Nightmare][No Hud]

Classic mode is where you get weapons as you progress through the level.
I did a playthrough beforehand so I could figure out where the weapons were, didn't want to spend lots of time looking for the weapon upgrades in a video. In that practice playthrough the crucible coin room got me a couple of times, so I was a bit nervous going into that, might be the first time I've felt that playing eternal, haha. It was actually really close here, glad I somehow survived because it's 30 minutes in and I didn't want to start over.
The start is a bit rough, sticky bombs against so many higher tier demons is something. Once you get the SSG your dps is mostly good though, so most of this isn't too much of a grind (I know there's some sticky bomb + precision bolt combo that does good damage too, but I haven't looked into it). Blood punch is incredibly good if you can get lots of monsters stacked up when you're at full health. Especially if you can ice bomb a group it's almost like a berserk really.
Took me like 2 minutes to clear the last doom hunter at 25:00, I was really uncertain about my health and decided to stack up, but I kept taking damage.
Dumped all my BFG's in the double arch-vile room, I didn't feel like dying here. The rest of the level is easy though and you've got everything at that point.
Really great master level, definitely my favourite so far.

the "normal" mode of Doom itself is more overwhelming than most of "horde" games around. An "horde mode" of Doom will need a quantic computer to run smoothly lol and a Buda master to play it w/o suffering a vascular brain damage

2:07 seeing this reminds me of the two barons you fight at the original doom and it goes to show how far doomguy has come power wise. He went from barely beating the 2 barons using rocket launchers, chain guns and more, almost dying in the process to beating 2 better versions of baron in a tight space using only a shotgun. I recommend Destroyer Blade for the Dreadknights down low, Lockon rockets and Mobile Turret at a distance for the Tyrants, and then charge the Archviles with the Energy Shield to freeze them, Blood Punch, and SSG+Ballista combo. At least, that's how I got past it.

Surprisingly, while my first normal Nightmare playthrough fried my brain and made me take a break for a few days, I managed to beat Classic Mode far quicker than I imagined. I died far less than I assumed I would. Once you get the SSG, then Rocket, then Ballista, you're basically doing normal dps for the rest of the level. Not to mention you actually still get the Crucible for the final fight once you form the energy blade in the cutscene. Used all 3 charges on the triple Barons in the fog lol. The double archvile deathtrap obviously took me several, multiple tries, but I eventually got past it by Destroyer Bladeing the Dreadknights below and Energy Shielding to get in close to the Archviles to do stronger attacks. Even the medallion room only took less than 3 tries for me!! Without Energy Shield!! Very surprising. I'm not even sure what I did so differently. So yeah once you do an initial playthrough and know what to expect, it's not easy, but it's easier. Extra Life Mode and Ultra Nightmare will be a different story...

That might come down the line. I suspect they'll put in more Master levels before they revisit previous Master levels to add classic Mode. Remember, they have to figure out the best points for adding certain weapons and weapon upgrades. It's why they've added it to the new master levels: they can balance regular & classic at the same time.

I was having a really hard time on the first part, then I realized I was starting with no armor and half health. I know the whole can’t save thing is because it’s tied to a campaign save, but why not even just put a full armor/health ball at the front? Anyways, I copied people on Reddit saying to go through Sentinel Prime with cheats and finish with full health since there’s a refill there, and it worked! Cleared the first area of the ML on my 2nd try, compared to like 20 attempts before starting with no armor/half health. Now we’re in business!

@@dtsyt82 I can never agree with that kind of argument, because their studio commands millions of work hours that can be delegated towards asset creation and story writing. Money, if anything, is not an issue. Second, have you seen the lore? There is no excuse. Third, what deadline? You mean to say they needed to push 2 storyline expansions within one year of launching the game? And now that laziness/hubris/greed proves the expansions were rushed. That being the case, it's no wonder the writing is so bad. They rushed the story to the point they couldn't develop it further, and retconned the lore they were building towards. So much of it got lost that all of the new lore is effectively overwriting the old lore. Who is Sam? Just another unfortunate soul that will die at your hand. What was Sam's plan all along? Pff, doesn't matter. Did he really think he could make you his servant? (That's his whole plan) Who is the Father? Pff, who cares. He's not ever coming back. VEGA/The Father has no place in the story, and replacing him with a potato would make no difference. Now Davoth, * points and smiles *, that's the REAL deal. He created everyone, including the creator of everything. Who is actually just you in a big suit you'll never wear. * jazz hands * Who the Makyrs were? Doesn't matter. Their deception? Inconsequential. The parallels between Heaven and Hell? Not worth establishing, because they don't matter.

@@plushiepenguin use your combat shotgun with chrono strike. Not even precision bolt. Or just take your mod off your weapon, in the menu there’s a key. This will slow you down mid air so you can time your dash into the secret better. Huge risk for this secret! But this should help!

I just love how some of the demons seem stealth-buffed. I spent three hours on a single arena because the stun timer on the Marauder felt shorter than usual. Not to exclude all the possible knockbacks and staggers due to poor placement or elements of the arenas like stones and pillars. I'm not out of it yet, I'm in that room with the Buff Totem and it's... way too much for me. Edit: I can't get past this arena. As soon as the third wave appears, I'm instantly blasted to death at high health. This is impossible. I don't know how you did it... but this arena needs fixing.

Recently made it in classic/nightmare. The bubble-medal room IS really really bad news. My few tips would be: try to get your double bloodpunch charges and ice grenade set (and probably ammo too) approaching the end of the doomhunter/baron combo. When the buffed cybermancubus appear, icebomb double punch one, when you do that, lock-on-rocket another one, while jumping over the bubble (its your safest place in the room, and the maneuver i just mentioned is really doable, i made it in the fuck ton of times i repeated that arena) after those two, just fuck around to get the last one, by that time you should have several shieldguys and some prowlers-zombies fucking around: flamethrow and grenade to get armour that you will desperatedly need by that point. Also, the hellkights should have spawn, they cant touch you as long as you are on the top of the bubble, from now onwsrds is just, take them as you can, never touch the ground, prowlers are your worst enemy by this point (they are, in fact, in many arenas in this ML), also some carcasses spawn alongside the buff totem if im not mistaken. Going doing to destroy it is the riskier part of the business, just try your best, if you have some grenades they could give you a small window of time to destroy the totem. Extra tip: the bfg is in the biiig fall of that "water well" kind of area, in one of the walls (can check it on the map, there was a collectible there in vanilla). This tips are just coming on the top of my head, i just beated the level and im exhausted, im sure there are way better approaches to the bubble fight, havent even seen zeros approsch as of writing this comment. Also, in normal mode i guess you could use at least one bfg shot when buffed cibermancubs spawn, and use chaingun to keep your ass alive in that part. I just dont know because ive only beaten the level in CM/N, i need to work on that. With the two marauders on the circle arena, i would suggest be more aggresive that what you are actually being, and then more. Thats what got me through that arena. if the battle drags for too long, a prowler will get you sooner rather than later. Also, before the first marauder spawns, be sure to set bot cyberdemons to more or less die at the same time, that way you dont have to deal with CD and M. You got this mate. This level was extremely frustrating yet rewarding for me. and i want more. Just grind it man, select a difficulty level appropiated, you will rise it up eventually. This level is meant to be BONKERS, i dont think it needs much to be changed, it simply wasnt made for casual players in mind (as Hugo Martin said, thats what ML are for) so, take this with a grain of salt and philosophy. I cant make this in UN, thats for SURE, as i havent been able to do UN on the base game. On one side it kind of pisses me off grestly, but on the other... If im not there yet, im not. Your determination and your wanton destruction and rage is the basis for the doom eternal experience. KEEP ON TEARING. Good luck mate, hope this helped with your map knowledge and your mood :3

I was a bit confused the moment it happened, but what actually happened there was that I killed 2 makyr drones who drop a ton of health, then I use blood punch which gets refilled on health pick up. So it grabbed all the health (much more than I could use) from the makyr drones and it dropped to the ground infront of the carcass.
