Doom 2's maps are less intuitive than Doom 1's, but this one really takes the cake. I had to use no clip to figure out how to get the yellow key, but, even with no clip, I couldn't figure out how to get the blue one. I think good map design is more than just making something complex; it has to flow logically enough for the player to figure it out. I really didn't enjoy this one at all.

11:26 I’m here after my 60 year old father asked me to look into what this does. Apparently, it was meant to be a switch to activate an elevator around the blue key so you can travel back up to the switch, but some map error rendered this switch broken and now it’s worthless. You may still have to press it in order to have the game recognize you got all the secrets, but I’m only speculating on this. Hope others find this as helpful as my father did, as he can rest easy knowing that he isn’t “losing it” at his age...

i found out what that switch does at 11:27 on the easy difficulty level. if you press it twice then step down to pick up the blue key and into the other room you will have unleashed some lost souls and an arachnotron, i got ambushed.also a big thanks for your walkthroughs they really help even on the easy difficulty setting

That ambush can be fought before reaching that switch. Doom wiki puts it under a bug, "There is a switch near the blue key to lower a lift, but the height of the sector associated with this switch is already the same as the lowest adjacent sector." Not sure what they mean by that.

I love DoomII and your videos are great. The room at around 13:24. For the last about 17 years, I had no idea you could flip the switches multiple times! I'd always just flip the farther switch once (sure I flipped the nearer switch too,but it is actually not necessary), jumped down for the box of rockets, this area is now non-damaging and raised high enough to allow exit via the bottom of the staircase and run diagonally towards the far-right corner of the staircase alongside the right silver wall to land on the platform with the backpack and the teleport. Neat!

However, while finishing the "Inferno" episode from Ultimate Doom, instead of rocket-jumping to reach the secret level switch, I had to use the NoClip cheat to reach (because strafe-jumping didn't work either.

I got stuck in the pit area that leads to the red key. The platform that raises is triggered by shooting the back wall of the smaller imp cage - but I used rockets to kill the imps and it didn't directly strike that wall. If you jump down before raising the platform you are stuck and have to reload from save or noclip your way out. I remember playing this level in the 90s and never getting into the red building because you only need 2 keys to exit and can bypass it entirely. If only youtube were around then...

I never use the secret lift to jump over to the red brick building. From the left side above the moat, you can easily jump past the blue torches that APPEAR to block access (though they do on the right.)

Hello! I managed to count the Spectre on the perimeter. Before landing down, I had 177 Kills. After killing all the Spectre, I had 202 Kills. This means that the Spectre are 25 (202-177=25).

At 14:50 BMD said you may not be able to drop down to the pinkies without being blocked but there is actually a small rectangular area protected by monster blocking lines which you can drop down to safely by using the ledge just to the left of the stairs you used to enter the room.

3:44 If you activate the lift but accidentally back off of it, how do you get it to go back down? I can't imagine the level designer would've designed it so the player literally can't finish the level in such a scenario, but I see no way to get it to go back down?

In that area with the five teleporters the center and far right teleporters are the only ones of consequence. The others just go to previously visited areas. Also that area with the green island when you try to make the jump across kill the demons in the pit first or they might prevent your jump and you’ll take damage.

I can't really agree you have to know this map or watch a walkthrough to enjoy it. I really enjoyed exploring it while being completely clueless about it. Everything just pieced together slowly. It's an adventure. Too bad that as I was trying to figure out the teleporters from the red area, I eventually got pressed with that crusher when I passed it for like 5th time. Gah! So I'm writing down that crusher on the annoying side. :P Also... I find it funny how you use the fist on all the spectres saying we may not have as much plasma left as you. I actually entered this level with full ammo in all weapons. They've been really generous with ammo on the last few maps...

In terms of enemies this map is not that tricky cause it does not feature any of the tough enemies like revenants, mancubi, barons of hell, archviles PAIN IN THE ASS ELEMENTALS! etc. however new players could get lost with this one as there are many places to go and you have to remember where everything opens up in order to progress. Luckily if they follow this walkthrough video it makes it more fun cause you will know where you're going and not get caught off guard. Thank you BMD!

Once again praise for BigMacDavey. Once more I give him a nod and a wavey. The Citadel, aaargh! I was truly stuck. Rushing around like a headless duck. Teleport here, what is there to do? Teleport there, I found myself in a stew. Round and round without a sound Until I finally went to ground, To look it up on You Tube. (That platform with the switch on it is not rising).
