Yes, Happy April Fools of 2022 everybody. I couldn't really think of anything too clever this year, so I came up with this. It could be considered a silly little insanity test.

It's not like you to submit very short videos and trying to use the original IWAD layouts this way is unthinkable these days. The Crafty Titan's Doom Hack still gets no respect for having done so to the whole IWAD despite the fascinating DeHackEd innards. Also, your channel dedicates itself to rooting out Trappists and their horrid warez. No doubt, you've come up with a few ideas of your own.

This is the best megawad ever. I know it's one level and that a megawad consists of 32 levels but I mean, it might as well BE a megawad! It is the perfect loveletter to DooM and even all of gaming, and I will explain why. Doom (stylized as DooM, and later DOOM) is a video game series and media franchise created by John Carmack, John Romero, Adrian Carmack, Kevin Cloud, and Tom Hall.[1] The series focuses on the exploits of an unnamed space marine operating under the auspices of the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC), who fights hordes of demons and the undead in order to save Earth from an apocalyptic invasion. The original Doom is considered one of the first pioneering first-person shooter games, introducing to IBM-compatible computers features such as 3D graphics, third-dimension spatiality, networked multiplayer gameplay, and support for player-created modifications with the Doom WAD format. Over 10 million copies of games in the Doom series have been sold; the series has spawned numerous sequels, novels, comic books, board games, and film adaptations. Doom II, also known as Doom II: Hell on Earth, is a first-person shooter game by id Software. It was released for MS-DOS computers in 1994 and Macintosh computers in 1995. Unlike the original Doom, which was initially only available through shareware and mail order, Doom II was sold in stores. Compared to its predecessor, Doom II features larger levels, new enemies, a new "super shotgun" weapon, and a new power-up. Master Levels for Doom II, an expansion pack with 21 new levels, was released on December 26, 1995. There are three large Medipaks at the exit so you don’t need to worry too much about health. Head down the corridor and ignore the closed door on the left for now. Take out the roaming Imps and Zombiemen and then head back to the door. Open the door and take out the two Imps. Kill the Zombiemen on the pedestals and then hit the Switch on the right. On December 26, 1995, ID Software released Doom 2's expansion pack, Master Levels for Doom, containing 21 new levels for the gamer to play with. The story is that while Doom marine was busy kicking Demon butts in hell; Demons were invading Earth and wrecking the place up. Now back on Earth, with billions killed, the surviving humanity hatches a plan to escape this nightmare by building spaceships to escape to space, however with the Demons blocking the only Spaceport with a barrier, preventing any ships from escaping, Doom Marine must find a way to break the barriers on that spaceport and even find a way to beat back the Demonic invasion however he can. Positives: 1. The same awesome gameplay of Doom 1 still resonates well here. Those who enjoyed the first Doom's gameplay will be pleased to see that the gameplay in Doom 2 is kept intact. There are very few changes in this as for the most part, you're still running rather fast in non linear intricately designed levels where massive swarms of enemies are still cleverly placed, especially in the more ope areas of Doom 2 where since you're on Earth, you will often fight in urban areas where places are open for you to move around in to reach the level's exit. To balance this, the enemies in Doom come in much larger quantities, and have newer and deadlier enemies. For your weapons, you only have one new weapon: Double Barreled Saed Off Shotgun: The big brother to the regular shotgun. This weapon not only fires two larger and more powerful slugs at targets, but is capable of killing medium level enemies in one well placed shot, let alone obliterating low level enemies to giblets. It's balanced to the regular shotgun in that it has a slower firing rate than the regular shotgun and doesn't handle multiple low level enemies as well as it as a result, and it requires two shotgun ammo per shot so it can consume your shotgun ammo pretty rapidly through heavy usage so use it wisely. There are also a few new items as swell such as the Megasphere, an item that supercharges your health and armor to 200 each. In respect to the Wolfestein games, there are two secret levels based on Wolfensten here too, including a Commander Keen easter egg in the final one of the two. 2. I personally think the Doom 2 ost maybe sligty better than the original ost, and that's saying something. Thanks to Bobby Prince's background as a lawyer, the composer of the classic Doom ames knew how much music he can sample and take from other musics witout incurring the wrath of the Music business lawyers. This has led to many pretty awesome osts such as the first level in Doom 2's takes asample from Megadeth's Hanger 8, The Demon's Ded sampling from Black Sabboth's AfterAll (The Dead), The Demon's dead is my personal favorite them in the entire game For your hearng pleasure. 3. Doom 2 still looks aesthetically pleasing too. Due to lack of any new technologies i graphics at the intervals of its release, there were little changes in graphics outside of newer hardwares allowing them to take adantage of increased performance. Still Doom 2, much like its predecessor still look impressive for a 20+ year old game. blogentry-23942-0-45869300-143706980.gif 4. The inclusion of expansion packs does help extend the life ofthis gameplay over its predecessor. With expansion packs in hand, Doom 2 totals to a huge 62 levels compared to the Ultimate Doom's 36 levels. If you wish to acquire both expansion packs Master Levels for Doom and Nerve Software's No Rest for the Living, Doom 3 BFG edition has that for ya. 5. Mod Support is just as great as the first Doom is. Thanks t the active Doom modding community, Doom 2 also has received the same good mod support that will help ensure Doom 2 can age well in this day and age despite being older. Check their forums and mod depositories for many Doom mods to enjoy. Negatives: 1. The game's narrative is still rather simple. Much like the first Doom, this game does little with the story outside of including text speeches in the few intermissions in Doom 2 to explain the situation and what your characer must do. Not a terrible or even a bad thing, but on I feel more narrative loving people won't particularly like. 2. If Doom 1 didn't convinced you, Doom 2 will do very little to as well due to having very few changes to its predecessor. Doom 2's biggest problem is that for the most part, it feels very much like the first video game in the series. This isn't a problem for those who loved the first Doom, but for those who wanted more in a sequel or wanted a better reason to enjoy Doom than what Doom 1 provided; this game will disappoint those fw people. Conclusion: If you wanted more Doom loving goodness, Doom 2: Hell on Earth will provide plenty of that with its vanilla 32 levels that can expand to an awesome 62 levels in total while you listen to some awesome metal osts ad find some mods to play this game. Only those who didn't like the first Doom would not like this game due to having few changes that wouldn't convince you to pick up the Doom series. I have to admit, I didn't think much of this WAD at first, especially since the premise isn't really that appealing but after a while I started to 'get' what the intention was here. There's definitely a bait-and-switch psychology at work with this level where Aquarius was trying to screw with the player by lulling them into a false sense of security before throwing a screwball at them. There's a lot to like here and the WAD was obviously crafted with love. I love how there's a kind of "corruption" seeping in with each iteration of the Entryway that you pass through. It's very much like "Watching Paint Dry: The Game" where every deeper layer makes the game world grimier and dirty as you progress and there's a few surprises here that make it worth playing through to the end. Overall, I give it a B+. Thoroughly entertaining map.

Finally an April Fools joke that is actually funny! Def some jumpscares but it was an insanely fun WAD to play. A nice spin on a classic level SPOILER WARNING Even with the Archvile room that leads to the end and the absolute hell that was the Pain Elemental section, by far the hardest room was the Chasm. Very cheeky to casually stick that map directly in between Entryway lmao

Oh, yeah. Bigger, sure. "Requires ZDoom" is also a death knell for level packs these days. I had to crouch and jump in several instances because the hall's height was too narrow. I also found halls of mirrors on some exit doors. Players might not be able to complete this, but they should if the joke is supposed to work. Also, I was disenchanted by the penultimate chamber, just before the "April Fool's Day" transition. I thought, courtesy of the Megasphere, that a spawn spitting boss confrontation was about to occur in a MAP01 with hell textures instead of tech base/cavern ones. Instead, it's a trio of Arch-Viles straight out of Brotherhood of Ruin leveling you to shreds as you sink into a transitional mire floor. I see this as a missed opportunity. Savvy players will have downloaded software that can preview maps ahead of time. I used SLADE3, suspecting a gimmick, and was pleased to find its shape. This didn't prepare me well enough since I didn't bother checking what the thing placements were. Yet, feeling confident that it would not be a Terry Trap, I hoisted out Project Brutality. Unlike a lot of April Fool's Day bullshit I've endured, this is legitimate, fanciless but playful without grating on your nerves. Without the mod, I wouldn't have gotten far due to the bugs. Maybe you should list its compatibility in the paperwork. Anyway, I did have fun for about an hour. With this in the bag and our mutual thumbs-ups (?), when can we expect another set of maps (instead of just reviewing others' stuff)?

SPOILERS - the map repeats itself 8 times with slight monster variation, then it's a copy of map32 (Grosse) crammed in, then it proceeds to repeat map01 three more times. Cyberdemons get involved. Honestly was kinda hoping for something a bit more creative, this is "my first Doom level" quality stuff.
