This is a map that really benefits from mouse look. So many intricate designs throughout! The large circular room where you fight the final mastermind has a whole collapsed ceiling with a ton of detail. It looks amazing!

Well, just one more map to go. That was quite the journey. I wonder what order did Antares make each of these maps. Sometimes I get the impression that he was getting the hang of things with the first few maps (except map 1, that one is a great introduction) and steadily learning how to make these massive, sprawling maps and finding his own style, leading to a wallop of a final episode. In the end, Alpha Scorpii Monument is the culmination to his style of mapping; creating an entire journey in the span of an hour. Starting really small and culminating into massive encounters that can knock someone right out if they are not bracing for impact. Like I said in the previous video: This is a much more balanced map compared to Antaropolis. The battles are better designed, the pacing is better introduced and it's an overall better experience gameplay wise. Like it or not, this is the best map in the wad and this, with pretty much all other maps in this wad, is something that Antares can proudly look back to; paraphrasing what MtPain27 has said. Honestly, Antares. Congratulations on such a masterpiece and I look forward to more things you make.

Every level was made sequentially (MAP01 ~ MAP15A,B,C ~ MAP30), except a few exceptions. Both MAP03 and MAP05 were the modified version of scrapped levels from 2013. There were 9 more finished & scrapped levels (You can actually find a screenshot of scrapped MAP17 from the background of HELP lump with new monsters info), but I found that those two levels could be fit into the first episode of Struggle pretty nicely. MAP28 was originally designed as MAP25, during the fifth beta version. You can actually find a similarity between the end of MAP24 and the beginning of MAP28, as a remain of this concept. Lastly, MAP33 is the first playable doom level I've ever created, back in 2006. There were a few draft levels, in order to familiarize myself with DeepSea level editor. But this was the first level that you can actually play it from the start, and exit the level in the end.

@@_antares031 Very interesting! Thanks for the great insight! Amazing to see such growth through this megawad. It all really leads to these last 10 levels that just blow everything out of the water.

I want an analysis on how the leichenfaust deals damage, not a decino level analysis but just to know
@_antares03129 күн бұрын
It's actually pretty simple. It's basically a BFG, but its tracers have blast damage. So the best way to use Leichenfaust is getting close enough to hit all 40 tracers against a mob of monsters, but staying away enough to avoid blast damage from the tracers.

This is close to the best map I’ve ever played. I can only think of MAP32 from Eviternity II as “better” off the top of my head. Also I believe it’s pronounced “scorp-y-eye” because English is stupid. 😆😆 Lastly, did you pick up on the Misri Halek feel of the map? It felt like a tribute to it until I reached the cave section which just about confirmed it.
@Azullia29 күн бұрын
The text file for Stuggle agrees: "A tribute to "Misri Halek" from Alien Vendetta; my all-time favorite Doom level. It also has a super secret."

Thanks, had no idea about the pronunciation :D The Misri Halek tribute makes a lot of sense in hindsight! Though I have to admit I didn't pick up on it during the run, it's been a while since I played AV.
