The thing in Eternal is, the drones are supplied to him by VEGA, and would be of good use to not break them, since VEGA might need them again and he's an important ally of the Slayer in Eternal. In 2016 the drones were UAC property, and let's be honest. Our boy Slayer didn't give two shits about UAC.

When I went to pick my copy of Doom Eternal up on release date from Argos, a store where you pay then go to the counter to wait for your product to be ready to collect. I was the only person waiting then a lady arrived to wait for her product order. 2 games got brought out at the same time my copy of Eternal, and the lady next in the queue, Animal Crossing New Horizon. It was written in the stars, destiny. Yes it was the release date so more likely to happen, but in a shop that sells everything, not just games, with hardly anyone in store waiting, due to the rising pandemic it was a spooky occurrence. For it to be one customer after the other and both games to be brought out together at the same time hand in hand. It made me smile.
