this is insane. after I watched you played this mission, I played the same one today. My cyberdemon was easily killed by an individual that had the chainsaw cards that reduce the stagger points. My baron of hell was killing everything in sight. it was a close game. this game is not getting the love it needs. thanx for your review

Kevin Ross haha, that's awesome! The thought of a giant Cyberdemon going down with a chainsaw is so crazy. I definitely think that Cyberdemon is fragile based on the weapons placed around the level. If I play that one again I may try and wait for them to reshuffle the strong weapons before I spawn him. Anyway, sounds like you're enjoying the game as much as we are...glad to hear it! Thanks so much for watching!

6:55 Woah woah woah he played Superior Firepower? Why didn't he discarded the BFG card? He has another BFG card in hand. One thing is playing the card, but when playing it, the card says explicitly: "To perform this attack, you must discard 1 BFG 9000 card." You always need 2 BFG cards to attack. Otherwise, you only gain 2 Speed.

Dungeon Master: You enter a small dark room full of the corpses of the scientist you once knew. There bodies mangled till the point they are unrecognizable. You clench the cold bloody shotgun in you hand, pumping it back, watching as the bright red shell popped out and hit the smily surface of the floor. The sound echoed throughout the room and through that noise you here a growl. A growl not of that man nor animal. Something unholy. You take a step forward aiming in the direction of the sound. You start to become paranoid as the sound suddenly came to a halt. Thats when you see a flash of something running pass your lightly lit green visor. You spin in a full 180 degree angel and blast off a round into the darkness letting out a bright fiery flash of light. Thats when you here a thump of a dead body. You walk over to your kill and you see lying there a unholy union of flesh and bones rotting away into the ground at unatural speeds. You begin to think it is over when you here a loud cranking noise. You spin around to see a large metal door opening with a beam of white light coming out. You hold your arm up to cover the blinding light when you begin to see the shadow of it. It being a mass of metal and flesh. You had only see it once before. That being when it was in containment. When it was being tested on by the UAC. Now it stares back at you, hungry for revenge. You grip onto your shotgun and stare the beast eye to eye and is does the same with its four burning red eyes as it raises up it steel plated arm cannon. The Cyber-Demon awakes...

I bought this game and have played it several times. In my cases it almost ALWAYS comes down to the wire like you guys experienced, which is surprising since there's a lot of dice rolling in the game.
@boardgamereplay7 жыл бұрын
Ahh very glad to hear that! I think the reason for those kinds of endings is that despite lots of dice rolling, there's a pretty solid balance between the two sides!

I've only played once solo to learn the game, but I'm pumped to get it played with some people. These types of games generally carry an intimidation factor of learning commitment, but this one should be easy to get played (as you guys said).
@boardgamereplay8 жыл бұрын
Ben Foster I definitely agree that it's pretty quick to learn. I'd say the marines have a somewhat smaller learning curve than the Invader, so start a newer or less experienced players there. The Invader is pretty quick to learn the basics as well, but I think he definitely takes more time to wrap your head around. Hope you get it played soon!

Imbacore well, the 2016 DOOM game this is based on has lots of throwbacks to the old music from the DOS game. There’s a rift of this same song played every time you pick up a collectible, for example :)

I'll say this before I watch... I'm curious about this Doom the Board Game, because I own the original Doom the Board Game. Wonder what's different... I'll post again later.
@KnucklesEki8 жыл бұрын
Differences: The board is smaller Marine size balancing is by cards, previously reduces invader spawn Invaders have resources, previously just attack with everything Marines now have special cards to play, previously just passive trait cards and guns Similarities: 6 frags to invader win Modular board Marines get MOBBED Seems like an alright bunch of changes, marines getting their own cards to play would make it less of a hack-and-slash. The smaller maps do mean it's less likely to have randomizers. What I love about the original is how big the maps can be, it opens up those map randomizers to generate a completely random maps, infinite replayability.
@boardgamereplay8 жыл бұрын
Red Mage To be clear on a few things about the Invader in this one...they do still get to attack with everything they have on the board, they just get to activate one demon group per turn. Turn order is determined by an initiative deck that's built every round. It has one Invader card for each demon group on the board, and then one for each Marine. Every time an Invader card is drawn, you can activate any one demon group and attack with all of them. You also have the extra resource to manage called Argent Power, which gives groups bonus attacks and power ups. Anyway, I actually own the first game too and will still be keeping it. The original is much more of an epic 3 hour dungeon crawl, where this one is a lot more of a fast paced tactical minis game. As far as customizing with the new one though, there's a fair amount of map tiles in the box and a scenario objectives are so simple, you could easily create custom missions and make a sandbox out of what's here. I'm actually excited to see what the community makes with this once more people get their hands on it.
@KnucklesEki8 жыл бұрын
Interesting. What I meant by 'attack with everything', I mean EVERYTHING attacks at the same time instead of by groups. How likely is someone going to make a randomizer program for this Doom? The old Doom got plenty of complete mission randomizer, with completely randomized areas and spawns. It's what I love about the old Doom, I even got a fanmade full co-op mod where the invaders are AI controlled. That with randomizer, completely unknown missions every game.
@boardgamereplay8 жыл бұрын
Red Mage ahh that's right I forgot about how demons used to activate in that one. That's crazy...so many demons! That's really great to hear about all the custom and coop stuff, I need to check those out. I'm not sure how soon we'll see custom stuff like that in the new game, but I think it's pretty ripe for it...at least custom maps anyway.

Hey guys, how would you compare this game to the DOOM: The Board Game from 2004 (based on DOOM3)?
@boardgamereplay7 жыл бұрын
I'd say they're similar in that they are in a 1vMany style game but they're actually quite different beyond that. I still own the 2004 edition and love it, but it's much more of a slow, sprawling dungeon crawl that this one. This game's best qualities are that it's very fast paced and both sides feel really strong and satisfying to play. All of the players at the table are happy to play either side with the newer version.

Okay guys, I don't know if I missed something in the rules but there's a logical question to raise here, well two questions. Firstly, the rules say that figures don't interfere with line of sight, I call bulls#*t on that, tell me I'm wrong please, also Can large demons shoot behind? I know something like "X-wing miniatures you have to shoot facing forward, but it just seems illogical if you surround the baron of hell or something, does he have 360 degree shooting?
@elquiltro924 жыл бұрын
Line of sight is via imaginary lines instead of counting spaces. That's why if you have straight line between two figures, you can shoot. And yes, no matter where your figure is facing. If it has line of sight, it can shoot. Always trace your line of sight from every corner of every space you are taking.
@xicufwm7 жыл бұрын
two questions more about logistics than actual gameplay: the damage tokens are put next to the miniatures, right?And stun and all. Doesn't the board get too crowded? As for the second question, is it easy to identify which marine miniature belongs to each player? I mean, the cards (Alpha, Bravo...) are colored, but the miniatures only have different poses. I think it would be better if they had some kindda colored base, like in Blood Rage, maybe
@marekstruhar55747 жыл бұрын
1- It actually does gets quite crowded, especially when playing "horde" scenario. When there is only one miniature on the board of a certain demon, you can put the damage tokens on your demon card. Everybody can see it. But if there are more, you need to put it next to the demon on the board. Another solution is to get some tokens from other games and "mark" each demon, and put the same token on your game space with damage tokens assigned. 2 - The most recognizable is the chainsaw marine and the heavy machine gun marine. The other two are kinda harder to indentify . I am planning to paint at least the base of the miniature for easier identification. Hope I helped a bit.

Love your videos, and they have been with that I started to interest me more for board games again. thank you. And then just a question how long does it take you to make these videor? how many retakes does it take for you two make a video?
@boardgamereplay8 жыл бұрын
Brick Thanks so much for saying that, it's really nice to hear! As for the time taken, not including the game recording itself, it's probably around 15 hours with writing and filming the intro and then editing everything. We don't usually have to do a retake for any of the game play stuff. We try to keep the discussion current and relevant to the game we just finished. For this game we played it 3 times earlier in the week as a group and then filmed this whole session for our 4th game. One thing that does take a while too is editing down the discussion. It's usually around 30-40 minutes and I try to trim it to 20 of the best stuff so I can include replays. Anyway, hope that helps answer your questions and thank you for your interest! :)

When do you draw up to your hand limit when playing as invaders at the end of the round or turn?
@marekstruhar55747 жыл бұрын
Good question. I played it yesterday (for like second or third time) and I said to my gf to draw the card after the turn, but actually it makes more sense to draw after the whole round. For example, there are some cards which allows you to react during the defense. YOu got one card with armor. You use it against the attack and you dodge. And lets say that was your last card. That means you depleted your hand assigned for that round. If you would draw the cards immediately, you could easily obtain some other card, which can be used during the defense, but that actually doesnt make much sense, since you already depleted your actions for that turn & round. Does it make sense?

Heh, if you’ve got a group that already plays a lot of video games it can be a little tricky to have them try the “analog” games. However if you can find a game with a theme and mechanics that sort of scratch a similar itch to their video game interest, it can work! If your friends like fighting games, check out BattleCon. It’s really slick card driven fighting engine and there’s tooons of expansions already!

How the hell did you take Doom, the quintessential game of a single dude ripping and tearing through loosely allied factions of everyone else and turn into four dudes fighting a monolithic figure controlling everything? The obvious answer to how to make Doom a board game is have one Marine vs 4 demon lords with them choosing which type of demons they want to control (Zombies, Pinkies, Imps, Lost Souls and a Pain Elemental, Hellknights, Cacodemons, Revenants, Mancubus, Arch-Viles, 2 Barons of Hell, A Single Spider Mastermind; each one offering a different playstyle, there's enough there for multiple expansions)... how does someone make this instead?! Did they even play the games?
