Nice work, wish I could make one for my SP-8. Could you recommend a loading 12g for beginners video or book for the Lee loader. I have all the supplies just don't have the knowledge or experience . Don't really want to blow my face off.

20:47 This is the best example of *_not what_* is being packed, but *_how_* it is being packed, and I love it. The compass lanyard being used as an emergency pull for the tin is one of the best examples of both forward and lateral thinking, and the compass holder itself allowing to view the compass without removing or digging for it is another bit of genius, and it's an actual orienteering compass to boot - which is another great choice. You're one of the few I've seen who put just as much thought in not only *_what_* was packed, but *_how_* it was packed.

@@StepOneSurvival I'm the one who should be thanking you. I've been practicing and teaching wilderness survival for over 20 years, and it is so incredibly rare to find others I can point to as a teaching aid for the *_how_* things get packed. I was already blown away by the thought that went into displaying the compass, but the very simple use of the compass lanyard as an emergency pull completely blew my socks off. Too many people are either incapable or too "arrogant" (for lack of a better term) to think of a scenario where they might be injured or incapacitated, etc., to rationalize the importance of this type of thinking. The forward thinking was the presumption of the injury, and the lateral thinking was the use of the lanyard as an emergency pull - using what was already available to serve a a different and separate function. Too many people put too much stock in the *_what_* and not the *_how._* You displayed a few other examples of this in your creation of this sheath as well, such as the multiple ways to carry/attach this sheath, as well as the hexagonal shape of the ferro rod, though those are a bit more subtle. Same with drilling the magnesium block or using those capsules. Though the *_how_* is important, there's another good example of the *_what_* in the form of that water filter. Sure there's ways to filter or sterilize water to make it safe to drink which although can be easy, can require time and/or expenditure of calories. Why should I wait for a purification tablet/drops to work, or for a fire and boiling water, when I can simply drink straight from the source if I'm dehydrated? Could you imagine dying of dehydration and having to wait for a tablet to take effect or building a fire to boil and/or make charcoal for a filter when every minute counts? Thank you so much.

Noticed your Jest Shirt, I attended Jest training back in the mid 80"s when I served in the Navy, The school was located at the time in the Philippines . Although all branches were represented and trained there the bulk of the primary instructors were actually Navy at that time. Also a cadre of local tribesmen of the Aetas people, who are extremely skilled in the jungle were also instyructors. As I recall there were 3 levels of training . If memory serves the classes ranged from 24 hours to 72 hours or so including class room and field training. We were allowed the clothes we wore, including the required long sleeves and long trousers, a poncho, hat scarf , canteen with iodine pills, a knife and or bolo / machete, Bug repellent and / or bug netting, A packet or 2 of salt, no more than a handful of rice, and as far as I can recall that was it, Students had to take malaria medication prior and post training for safety purposes, Everything else wanted or needed had to fabricated with materials in the environment of the Jungle and you eat what ever else can catch yourselves, I am sure if the US military JEST is still active it is in a different location, The old JEST school in the Philippines is now operated by locals and they give classes and tours to paying civilians . As far as I know mostly class room training and maybe some day time field training and tours, I once visited there as a civilian a few years back , I just attended a demonstration at the schools pavilion out side of the schools buildings , Lasted maybe an hour, Did not have time for a full class,

Hey brother I took the desert survival class when I was stationed at the Stumps in the 80's. And I have a hand made damascus steel "bowie", as well as my Ka bar for my field blades. But my plans are for bugging in when the shtf happens, [we are a disabled family of 3] so leaving is way out of the question. But I do enjoy the vids and SEMPER FI Stumps 80-84 (various commands) & Yuma 96-99 [med retired] Crash Crew

I like my SP-53. It's a chopping beast. I took off the black coating on the blade and it slides in and out of the sheath smoother. I sharpened the first 2 or 3 inches more for feather sticks and carving and the belly of the beast is for chopping.

Nice rig! I enjoy making knife-sheath kits. Especially for the bigger blades. 👍🏼👍🏼 I tricked out my TOPS Armageddon in a similar fashion. Started out with a custom kydex (pancake style) and added leather pouches to the back, and put a smaller knife (TOPS Lite Trekker) on the front, along with a 1/2x5” ferro. The back pouches lay flat so it rides smooth. Carry is either regular drop belt carry, or with a Baldric rig.

Back in the 80's I went to JOTC, at Ft. Sherman in Panama, a couple of times when I was in the army. That was our 3 week long jungle training, Jungle Operations Training Center. I enjoyed it the first time, not so much the second time. One of the things I learned there, was having a good knife along with a kit like this, goes a long way if you're in a bad way. I made a sheath similar to this, but I made mine with one long pouch that holds two tins, and I sewed in a one inch wide but very thin nylon webbing strap that I use to pull out both tins. I'm thinking of making another one, but this time, when forming the pouch, I'm going to tape a dowl to the block that was used for the tins, and formed the leather around the block and dowl, and in that rounded space next to the tins, I'll add a sharpening steel. I also added two "D" rings, again sewed into the side of the sheath with that same webbing but doubled up, and I looped in about 30 or 40 feet of 550 cord in the "D" rings. I really like how you think out of the box, and the builds you come up with. Keep up the great work.

Nice work! I wonder if it's possible we crossed paths...I went to JEST school in '82, even bought a jeep leaf spring, hand crafted bolo knife to use while out in the bamboo forest eating wild rice and crawdads in the bamboo pressure cookers we made. I loved that training and still have the knife. You'd laugh if you saw the sheath I made for it about about 18 years ago...it looks and functions similarly to yours. I was in A Co., 1/1...would be interesting to know if you were in the area then???
