A nice bit of characterization for Axel is that, throughout the game up to this point, he NEVER gives Sparkster a fair fight. Even with the mech fight at Devotindos, it seems like he didn’t intend for Sparkster to get his own mech. Here, he finally decides to take his rival head on, with no tools giving him the upper hand... before promptly breaking the wall to the vacuum of space as soon as he feels like he’s losing. One of the least honorable rivals in video game history.

Not only that, but Axel's mecha has slightly longer arms, so you may miss your attack at the same range he just takes 25% of your health away for free
