I get why the remakes lessened this feel; Raccoon City has a load of people for its size, and there should be a bunch of stuff going on - walking dead, fleeing civilians, wreckage and blockades. Plenty of the residents, police and civilian, put up one hell of a fight to save that doomed city.

Totally agree. One problem with RE3 remake is the music is just too low or nonexistent. It doesn't set the tone and feel of the horror and sadness of being in the dead and hopeless Raccoon City. It's not just about beautiful graphics. The overall atmosphere matters.

The theme really sets it in how terrifying the situation is, both to the player and Jill. The city is finished, whatever hope remains died with the people, escape is the only salvation left. All that stands between you and safety is a horde of the undead, a deafening silence, mutated monsters and an unstoppable pursuer sent to utterly pulverise you. And the scary thing, Jill is one of the few people left who can truly prevent a disaster like this occuring again. If you die here, you leave behind a world where Umbrella is allowed to continue their mad experiments.

I find incredible how that track translates the total lack of hope, showing to the player the worst type of situation you can be in, you and any other possible survivor. That “no chance” feeling that many civilians might have felt, thinking that would be probably better to shot itself in order to not face the horror outside. The Tenshi Essentials its ashamed theres no Deluxe Edition of RE3 Remake that comes with the original RE3 Soundtrack add-on so you can soundswap it into the game like RE2 Remake did. The original RE3 will always remain superior to the subpar REimagining. Hopefully some talented fans can put together a visual update one day that doesn’t remove 45% of the game, keeps the atmosphere, music, and doesn’t mess with characters’ personalities and designs.

For one, I was completely ok with the character redesigns. Jill wore a less provoquive outfit; Carlos' change was radical, yes, but it fit his new voice and personality, and to me he seemed more mature than his original version. As for Nemesis, his new design gave me the impression of him being an unstable experimental prototype, hence why he had to be regulated by the device on his chest. But the issue was that the game was indeed too short, so Nemesis didn't get to stalk us as much as Mr X. I liked the idea of having him wielding different weapons to test his abilities in combat (hence his flame thrower), I'd have added his gattling gun as a third weapon, like in Opperation Racoon City. I also would've added the excluded zones from the original, and have Nemesis remain humanoid up until the clock tower fight with Jill, so that he mutates off screen (much like the original), so by the time we reach October 1st we meet him in his dog form; maybe I'd have had the Grave Digger grow from Nemesis' severed arm, and have him as a boss fight outside the hospital, before we reach NEST 2's entrance.

I watched the remake again and the redesign of the characters isn't as radical as I first thought it was. You see Jill being kind and trying to help people on multiple occasions (one of her key traits), for example on the train she goes to try and help the people Nemesis has killed before Mikhail holds her back. The only difference is she doesn't trust the Umbrella mercs, but that makes complete sense.
