Hi, this is Maya Vorderstrasse with What to Expect, and today we're going to be taking a look at the Doona infant car seat. It is a hybrid car seat stroller, which means it has integrated wheels. You can use it as a car seat or as a stroller. How awesome is that? I wish I had one of those when I had my first child. My life would've been way easier. I'll let you know right now that this is the only car seat that has met all three US safety standards for car seat, stroller, and carrier.
Here's how it works. You just push this lever in, take baby out. Ready to go for a stroll. All you have to do is push a button. This is amazing. Then, you adjust the handle, and go shopping. Once you are done running your errands, all you have to do is put your foot in front of the wheel, press the latch, and place baby back into the base. And, you put down the security handle. All ready to go.
Usually, car seats weigh about seven or eight pounds, and this one weighs 16.2 pounds, which is a little bit heavier. But, keep in mind that as soon as you take baby out of the car, you can already take out the wheels and push your baby. You're not really going to be carrying it for that long.
The price of the car seat is $500. It is a little bit expensive for a car seat, but have in mind that you also have the stroller integrated with it.
You don't really need the base to install the car seat in the car. You can just use a seat belt, which makes it very convenient if you take a lot of taxis or have a compact car. In my opinion, this is a very convenient car seat if you have to run errands quickly or if you have a lot of things that you keep stored in your car. It is very compact and you don't have to pull out a base from your trunk. So, you'll have more room to put your groceries in and things like that.
If you're a mom or a dad who lives in the city, this might be the car seat for you.

It’s got a cute handle but the NHTSA said it’s a lot less safe than the Graco $50 from Walmart. NHTSA passed it as acceptable but did not say it was efficient at securing the child. So … it’s a no for me. It’s a new concept so perhaps with some adjustments it will get a higher rating during impact after tweaking. NHTSA data and ratings are available on their website for reference.
