My 86 k10 has the same problem. I have to take a long flat screw driver and a hammer and tap that little lever back you were talking about. But it keeps doing it so gonna change the whole mechanism

Know what the part is called I need to replace mine in my c10. Mine is jammed up so bad the door handles don't even work
