On the next Home Depot run, grab one of those little wall wart testers with the three lights to show the viewers. They are invaluable for people that can't read a multi-meter. They tell you if the polarity is correct and if the ground is good. You probably have one and just can't find it right now.

The heater is a vent free style heater. They are safe but having a CO2 detector is always a great choice. I use one of those heaters in my garage and have for years. They work great.
@andrewfyakim525
@andrewfyakim525 23 минут бұрын
Sorry to cordially disagree. No vent-free appliance is safe for use in an enclosed space if people and/or animals occupy the space. Most (all?) of them state so in the instruction manuals. Using them for short periods (20-30 minutes at a time) won't likely kill the occupants of the home, but running one overnight can very well cause harm. CO poisoning is harmful in small doses, accumulated over long periods of time, AND is harmful in large doses over short periods of time. Yes, there are a lot of variables, for example, how large is the space? how air-tight is the house? but many state codes do not allow them to be used/sold for use in occupied buildings. And, it's not only about the carbon monoxide issue. For every gallon of propane/LP that is burned, you 'create', on average (depends on the climate; damp/dry?) 1 1/3 gallons of evaporated water vapor. (As if you boiled away 1 1/3 gallons of water in the room). In climates unlike the dry climate Herb-O-Matic is in, this amount of moisture is a major cause of mold and mildew issues; so what might be 'ok' in some climates, can be a real problem in damp and/or 'mixed' climates.

We were in the path of hurricane helene and we are now on day 9 (I think) of no utilities. Just sitting with a battery operated fan blowing hot air on me, and it reminded me of your desert airport living conditions, except we don't have scorpions here, especially that size! Glad you were able to get the hot water...you obviously need a big propane tank. You need to put your hanger back together, and grade your runway. On a side note, back in my locksmith days, when I came across a foam filled entry door that I was replacing the locksets on, I would install the metal wraparound cover to enhance the strength of the door. Just a thought. Thanks guys for bringing us along on your desert airport nightmare, er, I meant to say journey....don't know how nightmare slipped out. Maybe it was the scorpion you showed at the end!

Re the bedroom gas heater it is safe to use it has a built-in safety device which will switch the heater off before the oxygen level in the room gets too low. But looking at your doors and windows I don't think ventilation is a problem. From what I have seen I would recommend replacing with your gas lines as soon as you are able. I would recommend using 3/8 inch copper gas pipe because of the length of run on your gas systems.

Not a Hank Hill, but i did hear your safety valve engage when you opened your nee tank of propane. That will reduce your flow to whatever it's run to. To fix it, turn off the valve, wait for pressure to release so you start with zero pressure again, the open the valve slowly... slowly, so you dont hear that "BB" or whatever that thing is make contact. It sounds like a bb hitting metal. Once the line is pressurized, you can open the valve fully. It's a pain, but it makes a huge difference in how much gas volume comes out of the tank. Just trying to help and sorry the gas company won't hook you up, maybe they are weird? Ya, i think that's it. Yall keep up the great work, making dreams come true, one day/project at a time.
@thaddeustroyer
@thaddeustroyer 3 сағат бұрын
Oh one more thing, the leak test will work better once you get the gas flowing to whatever ever appliance you are testing, if the system hasn't been bled, the propane is pushing air. Air has a larger molecules than air and will only show a really large leak(which will be a massive propane leak) so make sure your appliance works, which means you actually have propane at the appliance and your lines are purged of air, then check for Leaks.
@thaddeustroyer
@thaddeustroyer 3 сағат бұрын
Ok, one more, more, thing, thing... CO detectors need to be replaced every 3-5 years and smoke detectors every 10. So it's good that you bought separate devices, the all in one unit work great but following the replacement schedule they would need to be replaced every 3-5 years and they are more expensive so it's just wasted money, and I hate to see you do that.
@Charlie-cs1yl

Propane is heavier than air so it will pool near the floor. Your need a manual gas shut off valve for each devise. The flex hose should be between the the gas shut off valve and the device (water heater, etc.)

I actually know the question about the propane tanks threading.. It was some time around 1999 or 2000 where they changed from trailer valved to opd valved tanks as it was a safety issue with the Trailer leaking if the valves were left on and the device it was plugged in to was not calling for gas at the valve.. I Only know this because I was working a job that made me sit through a safety lesson and I was hung over that day badly.. lol funny how im currently hung over and answering this same question I learned many years ago why being hung over then lol ... anyways thanks for creating such fun content can't weight to see what you do next..

Electrical hint: Since you're going to be testing, fixing electrical outlets - grab paper and pen... And a Sharpie... Go around and identify each outlet and light fixture and which breaker controls it. Make a list, but also, with the Sharpie, write the circuit breaker number on the inside of the outlet cover! With lights, fans, etc. Write the number on the internal crossbar that holds the mount for the shade or fan mount. This will save lots of work in the future. Oh yeah, You MAY have a tripped breaker which may be why none of your laundry outlets work! Remember, a tripped breaker may not look tripped as they don't move far... Wiggle the toggle too see if you find the loose/tripped breaker. Hope this helps Later...

I would get rid of that vent-less heater in the bedroom. The fumes will give you a headache at the very least. I have a portable vent less style heater I use when the power is out. Operated it in the basement and could smell the burnt gasses and did get a headache for running it. It did keep the house from freezing. You should invest in a solar water heater/storage system to provide for hot water and hot water heating. Your climate is ideal for such a system. My propane water heater will heat the water on only the pilot. So I run the water heater on vacation mode so it won't turn on the burner. I take a shower and then do laundry and allow a day or so for the water heater to recover before using again. Since you live in an arid climate, you should hang laundry and if you want to soften your clothes, you can toss them into the dryer with no heat and air fluff them, saving propane.

Buster chowing down 👍Home Depot used to sell Schlage door knob sets, I suggest those, as they can be all keyed alike… “Is it better without this?” 😂😂😂 Yes, go with all NEW exterior doors & jambs, for your sanity, you need to keep the desert outside, and the former owner was the definition of a “hacker” (“one who makes furniture with an axe”), you will do a much better job and have a secure house 👌 Idea: hookup that funky compressor you have to where the gas tank “used to be”, now go see where the “gas” is running, and listen for leaks, once you have it all to your liking, try one of the #20 tanks in that spot, if it works, go call a real propane company and find out how much a 250 or 500/1000 gallon underground tank costs, you can dig the whole hole and bury it. Done.

Herb have seen the new Deltahawk aircraft engine? Cool design. A couple of hundred pound propane tanks. With a automatic switch over valve. Tank A to Tank B. So can refill the empty tank but still be on gas. Check out RV centers. Fairview GR-9984 High Capacity RV Camper LP Propane Automatic Changeover Regulator We really enjoy your videos

I don’t think they will refill the tank with the round knob. The triangle one is the new standard. Extra safety feature.

Ventless heaters are fine. Your house is drafty enough to provide more than enough airflow. My old house had one of those type heaters and while we only used it a couple weeks out of the year, the rest of the time was provided by firewood.
