10 жыл бұрын

Eric is a graduate of Spokane Community College and Eastern Washington University, where he currently conducts dopamine research in the neuroscience lab. He turned down a coveted spot in dental school to further his research on learning and will continue in a neuroscience PhD program. Before becoming a professional student, Eric traveled with a rock band, worked in finance and in retail. He has plenty of time to ponder his research during cross-country rides on his Kawasaki Vulcan to visit little-known bergs and byways.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Poor thing. He seems to be nervous, which I'd be as well if I was on a stage in front of a crowd of people. This tells me how devoted he is when it comes to the lab work he's doing and just how much he wants to share those findings with the world. Keep it up!

*The speaker is suggesting that we should do activities that release dopamine, but once it's released, then it's gone right? So, wouldn't it be better to try to keep the neurotransmitters in balance and not release them constantly?*

Dopamine is being produced no matter what. A forced deprivation of dopamine release (fun, motivation) might have severe consequences. I wouldn't take neuroscientists so seriously that you base your life around their findings.

Example of unhealthy dopamine cycle: Crave drug, hustle money, get high (Motivation, behavior, transient reward less over time) Healthy: feel like grilled hamburgers, go to grocery store + prep grill + invite friends over for cookout, reward is taste, socialization, self esteem (motivation, behavior, less addictive and more lasting reward) Over time one pathway builds a healthy dopamine cycle. The other depletes it.

Studies have shown too much dopamine produce hallucination which is not uncommon among drug users. Also dopamine can make you forget other importnt things, so some people seek pleasure to avoid painful thoughts. Too bad this video is too one sided.
