to those below a morning star is usually a one chain flail with a spiked iron (or steel now) ball. a mace can have a spiked ball, blades, spikes, etc. But it has no chain. And whoever made this flail made it too short. a flail ball, whether spiked or not, should not reach the hand. It was made mainly to 1) knock one of a horse, or 2) the horse rider would use it on those on the ground to hit in the head. The blunt force wasn't usually what killed them, it was the bending of the metal in the helmet that would stab into the skull that was more of the kill shot.

I have made both a mace and a few different types of flails... I dont usually make authentic replicas. I make more crazy, far out versions of historical weapons.... Some better than others. Chain= flail. No chain= mace. Thank you
