DORA PETKOVIĆ, piano / Sergei Rachmaninoff: Piano Sonata No. 1 in D minor, Op. 28

I enjoyed the 1st and 2nd movements for much lyrical playing with strong direction and fine details. In the finale i particularly liked the rocking reminiscence theme, often taken too slowly but surely, the "big tune" needs a more expansive expression rather than rushing forward (in my opinion). This movement was slightly spoiled by strange slips at 26.21 and 27.04, (tho quickly recovered), and again some rushing towards the end. But generally a very "live" performance of a notoriously thorny work, very difficult to bring off convincingly (and where several noted virtuosi have fallen!). Thank you.
