Dr. Lydia, as a retired nurse, (SICU/PICU & Burn Unit), I loved working with doctors who were down to earth, brilliant, knowledgeable and had a caring heart. I also loved their ability to teach with the ability to encourage us to continue in our growth to better ourselves, all while providing the best possible care to our critical patients. You are an amazing woman and vet. Knowing how difficult the decisions are that you often have to make, your compassion comes shining through. All at Horse Plus are blessed to be working beside you. Thank you for all you do with all the animals that come in and thank you for sharing the procedures that you do, to give them a better quality of life, or the last act of kindness when that is needed. God bless you and your family.

Ditto, I worked in a wonderful place, with brilliance that was freely shared and questions were encouraged. I’m retired and moved to be close to my grandkids, but I do miss it. These two vets are a great pair that bounce off of one another, and the horses benefit. I love how they love these animals.

Maybe her family will give us an update on how she is doing along with the other horses they have adopted. I think it would be AMAZING to see how some of the adopted horse's new lives are going and how amazing being loved is now and cared for as they should be. Doras story when she came in, I thought she would have to be put down and to see her get through everything and load on a trailer to go home made me cry!

To say I am happy to see that Dora found a loving home would be an understatement. It is frustrating to see how few draft horses can be saved. They are much more vulnerable due to their size, and yet they are worked to death by certain people/communities. To see you guys pull Dora out of the pipeline and have her come out of this mess sound and even rideable is incredibly rewarding.

I love seeing draft horses being used for riding; I rode a half-draft for lessons years and years ago, and her temperament was absolutely the best. Big horses are a smoother ride, too, in my opinion. Not surprised she found a good home so fast; scar or not, she's a beauty. What a wonderful thing you've all done.

I remember Dora from the April buyout. She has such a dignified presence and confidence. Her adopters will learn what a treasure she is. Drs. Lydia & Gina you are rock stars! The HPHS staff you are too. Dora's tracheostomy tried to kill her & failed. The smell tried to kill everyone & nearly succeeded! I swear I could smell it with you. Blessings for your kindness & loving care. Cotton balls in the nostrils & mouth-breathing is your only defense! Thank you!

In the 80s I worked on a hunter/livery yard, and 1 of the horses had one. He was a big chesnut hunter 17.2hh called Tiger, and he had a brass tube fitted in the Larynx with a stopper on a chain, and the stopper was taken out when doing fast work. They use brass because it is natural antimicrobial , but it was taken out and cleaned twice a day, and the stopper was kept in place when he was in his stable to prevent food and dust from entering it. He's the only horse I've ever seen with one fitted.
