Great job there. The important thing was that Charlie did not panic at the sudden fall of his partner. The other critical thing was Riley using his head, figuring out the situation and listening to the Dad's instructions and calming talk. The teamster driver (Dad), fought down his own panic to keep his horses from panicking, so they drew calmness from each other. Wonderful show of the teamwork and trust between them all, even though Riley was rather new. Riley has a good foundation from his earlier trainer. Just such a good example all around, even to the continuation of the work. Thank you for a great video.

I have been driving teams my whole life for a living and you sir did everything just perfectly in that situation. It always takes a few minutes to get your brain functioning well enough to remember the simple solutions like quarter straps or the poll strap. I have had horses go down in similar situations and it’s always hard to go through your safety check list that you have in your head for a situation like this while it’s happening. Thanks for setting such a good example of horsemanship and self honesty of the situation.

This was amazing team and horsemanship and example of implicit trust in each other. How do u teach them to not panic in a wreck? Most horses would of panicked and panicked each other. More so how they learn to stay still. I mean my horses are good (not drafts) but I don't think they would of been so good. I'd hope but you never know. Not good for the wreck but so good to see the process in that emergency setting.
@drafthorseswithalexa11 ай бұрын
Thank you - it all comes down to that trust they have in you and you have in them. Staying calm is critical, as it keeps them calm. While the horses were very well trained when we got them, we spent considerable time in the first few months just getting to know them, grooming etc and letting them know they can trust us, before thinking about putting them back to work. Then just small steps to let them know we won't force them to do anything, or ask them to do anything we don't think they can do...it really builds their confidence in themselves (and us as their partners) to just take it slowly.... That way when something goes sideways, it's simply a team effort to get things going again without too much trouble!
@beckbeverley345110 ай бұрын
I love that. I 100,% agree. I do a lot of that stuff with mine and I think too spending time in their presence wanting nothing of them changes relationships. I do it with all mine literally have a coffee in their yard and just sit. If they interact all good if not all good. I have some rescues and sometimes it's like a switch for them that clicks and trust U more and more. And I mean it dad was amazing not freaking out and just kept calm and methodical. They matched energy coz of that trust... It's a bit like... Oh shit... But he's not freaking so I must be ok. Love U guys and style thank u
