PS did you hear about how Castle has issues with their little Grom sized motors breaking the shaft? There is a little blurb on Castles website saying that they received many reports of shafts breaking when put in Grom vehicles, and they won't cover it under warranty because it's "user error" and "improper mesh settings" ? That's a bunch of bullplop, and Castle should be ashamed of their failure. If those little, light vehicles can somehow break the motor shaft, in my opinion Castle is doing something wrong with QC or materials quality. If a Grom is too beefy to run a Castle mini motor, then what is the manufacturers assumed use case ? A plastic water bottle and a paper towel roll ? Oh, wait, that's Sesame Street, not Fisher Price, but the point remains.
@DoRC4 ай бұрын
It's not really the grom's fault or castle's fault. I think that the motor that most people are using has two small of a shaft and the Grom Mount is pretty flexible so it just ends up smashing the gears together and breaking the shaft. I use the 1010 motors and haven't had a problem.
@PigglyWigglyDeluxe4 ай бұрын
@@Boogie_the_cat not a castle problem. I agree with castle on this one. Learn to set mesh and use the correct pinion gear (0.5mod is NOT the same as 48 pitch) and they do perfectly well. I have a few Groms with castle 08 series motors. No failures here. Besides, castle 08 series is an old motor that’s been in production for YEARS. All of a sudden they blow up pinion shafts and only in Groms? That’s not a castle problem. Think critically.

I just discovered yesterday that these are based on a Grom. I haven’t been paying attention to Losi very much lately. Old school Losi fans would lose their minds over this, and not in a good way. Me personally I struggle with this. Losi in my mind doesn’t have an identity anymore. TLR today is what Losi was 20 years ago. Losi today is… I don’t know what they are. They have so many oddball options in their catalog that they are more like Tamiya than old Losi. On one hand, parts sharing with Arrma is smart, but damn Losi has a huge identity crisis on their hands. On its own merits as an RC model, these are okay, but if I told you this was a Losi 20 years ago you’d laugh at me. I don’t mind Losi changing things up, but the parts sharing with Arrma is the part I struggle with.

The miniB and miniT brushless costs more then the Nascar. If brushless were to be offered, it would he significantly more expensive. I feel anything that is "Grom" related is intended for entry-level and with Nascar, Losi is already bumping up against a non-entry-level price. Do we all add brushless to these? Generally, yes. But that is a customer decision. I think the most obvious solution is to offer the Nascar (as well as other Groms) as a roller for a cheaper price, therefore ensuring it stays in that affordable range. Ideally, the Nascar could be offered WITHOUT the Nascar body, so licensing wouldn't be an issue, and costs could come down even more. In addition to entry-level being the goal, I think club racing might have been the goal, too. Club "spec" racing, that is. In that situation, it would be ultimately up to each individual track's rules, but keeping everything stock would ensure an even, and inexpensive, playing field. Should it be offered as brushless? I think not, as that defeats my perceived intention of the vehicle.

Nice job, very informative, is the brushless motor used in this video the equivalent to the 380 stock motor? If not do you know of a brushless motor equivalent for the stock 380?
@DoRC3 ай бұрын
I'd say the brushless motor is a fair amount more powerful than the stock 380 motor but I still think it's pretty appropriate for the chassis. Is there a reason why you want the same amount of power as the stock brushed motor?
@scottbrodie30713 ай бұрын
Thanks for responding, and yes I was looking for a brushless replacement for the stock 380 reasons behind this is consistent motor performance with brushless versus brushed that degrades during use and eventually would need replaced with new motor. My understanding is that the brushless would last longer than me if it was ran within its specifications and wouldn’t need as much maintenance as a brushed motor. I do know that would require a brushless esc and receiver. Taking it out of the stock class racing but possibly a mod class of the stock might happen. Really like the speed as is for oval or simulated scale rc nascar racing. And long run times!

This should really be a brushless rig for more money, say like 225ish, or have been more like $150. I think a lot of people justify it by saying the Mojave is $150 so it’s just $30 for the nascar licensing, but that makes the mistake of assuming the Mojave is worth $150. I would argue none of the grom platform cars earn their price tags. They have a weaker driveline than many of the small brands out there, I would say that $125 is the top dollar that any of them are really worth. It’s also a shame that the granite buyers just get shafted on the motor cooling situation. It’s not that hard to mount a fan on top of an appropriately designed heat sink even the competition like redcat use larger 390 motors for around $100 instead of 130+. I just sold my granite grom for $80 and haven’t looked back.

This is NOT the updated diff! Not for that Mojave grom anyways. Those two little plastic gears are the ones the metal gears in the center strip so easily. Mine lost the rear end in 4 battery packs. Arrma all metal diffs ar 50.00 US for front and rear. Cvd axles will also have to go. Highly recommend Hot Racing HR! Around 26.00 US for each. Also, great choice here on ESC! AWFUL choice on motor...

You're thinking of the upgrade diffs that have been available as an option since the first Grom was released. This is the updated stock diff that was introduced with the Mojave. It has revised plastic output cups and metal internal spider gears.
@justinfraziet68432 ай бұрын
@DoRC hell no it aint!!! I bought it day one. They are the same stock diffs. Because I have them all together in a plastic little bag. 4 of them! All been taken apart. All exactly the same! Plastic at the ends! Metal in the center. The metal gears strip the plastic gears on the end. YOUR COMPLETELY WRONG TRUST ME! They didn't upgrade shit

lol I feel like Honda is going to sue Arrma and anyone else using “grom”

Maybe they'll get Traxxas to do it for them :-)

Nah. Honda is FAR bigger than any RC company. Hardly worth it. Meanwhile, Hyundai just came out with the Ioniq 5 XRT, I wonder if Traxxas will chase them over that.

Because I'm not a racer. If I was that's what I'd be worried about but I'm a basher so how fast it goes and how well it bashes is what I'm interested in :-)

would i buy a HORIZON HOBBY budget comprimised RC car today ? 🤔 nah 🤣🤣🤣 . Hell , I won't buy any RC budget wise RC car than anything less budget than my LC RACING EMB-RA RALLY cars , truggies and buggies 🤔 , and they handle way better than any budget horizon hobby model 🤣🤣🤣 , plus LC RACING chassis look way cooler than anything that comes from horizon hobby's budget line RC'S 🤔 🤣🤣🤣

Maybe so. LC racing does make nice stuff.

I absolutely love my emb-sct. I've had for almost 10 years and still love driving it. It's got pretty much all the upgrades on it. You are right about the amazing handling. I used to do carpet racing with it but my track closed down a while ago so now I just bash it around. I'm thinking about converting it over to the rally. What wheels and tires do you use for your rally? The stock LC Racing ones?
