@FunkyHuants666 That's a tough one. I haven't really run any 8s lipos. Most 8S cars take two 4S lipos. I think SMC has 8s lipos and I've had good luck in general with SMC batteries.

I actually just went back and realized you had asked me about the X-Max before that. Yeah The X-Max actually takes two 4s batteries. SMC has X-Max specific batteries but if you have any questions about the options you can contact them. They are US-based company and they're pretty responsive.

I started about a month ago running on 5s for the first time and really like it. The Hobbywing WP-8BL150 being used doesn’t recognize 5s (6 beeps) but it has crazy LVC settings, like 2.6v and 2.8v, which didn’t make much sense until I realized those cutoffs must be for gap voltages like 5s. A few runs with voltage checks and I was able to dial in the right LVC to use with it.
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
According to the manual for the 8 BL 150 G2 you can manually set the LVC for 5S.

Yeah I think a lot of people don't know 5S is even an option so it's definitely something that's cool to explore. Even if it's running a bit less power on a 6S truck or being able to get away with running more power on a 4S truck without having to replace the motor.

Very cool video...I've always thought a lot of my larger RC's would perform just right on 5 cell but none of my ESC's will run it.

can i use one 3s lipo and second lipo that is 2s?
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
Technically it's possible. The problem is that it can be difficult to get a matched pair of batteries that way and given that the ESC only sees the total voltage of both batteries and has no idea what each battery's individual voltage is you can end up undervolting one battery if they discharge unevenly. You'll need to run them together for a few minutes then check the voltages and do that through a pack or two and make sure that they discharge fairly evenly. If they do you will probably be okay but they also might age differently so it's something that needs to be monitored over time.

Whats the diffrent between 6,0v and 7,4v in the settings?
@DoRC11 ай бұрын
It's the voltage of the BEC. The BEC is a thing that powers the other electronics on the car. Many servos are capable of handling higher voltages and higher voltages will provide more power to your servo. Just be aware of that some receivers and some servos can't handle more than 6 volts so you need to look at the actual specifications for your hardware before changing it

is it possible to run a 3s and 2s together?
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
Technically yes however the ESC only understands the total voltage of both batteries so if the two batteries don't discharge in lockstep one of them is going to end up at a lower voltage than the other. If this difference is large enough you could end up undervolting one of the batteries. The only way to know if this will happen is to try it with the two batteries you want to use. You can charge them up, take them out and run them for a few minutes. Then check the cell voltages. If the cell voltage is stay very similar to each other throughout the discharge then they will probably be okay together. This might change over time though as the two batteries age differently so it's something you would have to keep track of.

Do you run yours with a sensored motor?
@tripletrc5654 Жыл бұрын
Yes I run the 2000kv Tekin motor as well. But I do run it without the sensor wire with that motor and it's obviously not as smooth but fine for bashing. Racing it's a must have though imo
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
@tripletrc5654 Yeah I noticed at least with the one I was running initial acceleration is pretty violent. I do have a sensored motor and tried it with that. Made a huge difference. I'm sure Tekin doesn't spend a huge amount of time tuning their sensorless operation since the vast majority of people will be running them with a sensor. I'd be interested in trying them more but unfortunately they're not waterproof and that's kind of a requirement for me

The Mamba X is also compatible with 5s. It's a great option for the Arrma 4s line 👍
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
I was thinking about that but it isn't rated for the weight of these vehicles. It might be okay but I bashed in a pretty hot client in the summer and so I always like to have a lot of overhead in my hardware.
@GreatLakesRC Жыл бұрын
@@DoRC The Mamba X is 6s rated with the same cryo cooling that the 8s rated MMX8S has. It can handle any of the Arrma 4s cars. Or you can go with the Mamba monster X. Older ESC but about as big as the Tekin ESC. It also reads 5s. That's the biggest advantage to Castle products. They read any voltage. The quick run that you mentioned is a pretty good ESC too. I had an old Quick run 150 that you could set to 5s as well. I'm a big fan of 5s 😀
@DoRC Жыл бұрын
@GreatLakesRC It's possible it would be fine but the manual for the mamba x states that the maximum RTR weight is 9 lb and with a 5S battery my truck weighs over 11 and a half pounds. They also state that that 9 lb weight comes with a 4S limitation. Again it might be fine but I really don't like pushing stuff that hard. The Mamba monster x would almost certainly be great but at more than double the price of the 8bl150 G2 that's a hard one to justify.
