Hi JT, Love the videos very informative. Myself and my wife hired a VW ocean last year and loved it. I’d love to buy one but even the beach is out of reach here in Ireland. However I’ve noticed that you use a large tent on your travels rather than sleeping in the VW. The tent would be a great option for us but I’m wondering is it cumbersome to set up and take down? I have an estate car so could fit everything. What do you think? Maybe you could do a video on that? I’m currently in France with my daughter and staying in a chalet but it’s much more expensive, the sites are fabulous though. Keep up the good work. Brian

Hi Brian, Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoy the videos, its great to hear that people find them useful as well. When we started our 'Campervan Journey' a few years ago we were travelling as a family of five, so our choice of vehicle was driven first and foremost by needing seating for five. We had been tent campers before having the vans so had all the camping kit already including a huge outwell tent. If anything, having a large van made it easier to take all the camping kit with us ! When we went away, one or two of the kids would sleep in the pop top and we would use the tent alongside for extra living space and sleeping. Just like an awning, but without the link up. It worked well, especially when the kids were younger. There are some early videos on the channel that cover some of this... We have tried several tents over the years, both airbeam and pole and a driveaway awning, but find that currently a small/medium sized standalone tent suits us best. You can set it up quickly, use it as a base, and when you go out for the day you can leave stuff behind in it. We have all slept in the van on some 1 or 2 night overnighters when travelling down to the Alps or further down through France, but for longer stops with a small van, we really see the benefit in having something pitched alongside. It is a bit cosy ! Now we are a few years down the line, our kids have grown up and we are most likely to travel as 3. We down sized our tent last year to the Robens one we have now which is relatively quick and easy to set up but is a good base for using for a few days at a time on a campsite. If you just wanted an overnight shelter, there are quicker and better options, but it really proved its worth on this trip when we had some really heavy rain. Whilst we have a set up that we like at the moment often when you are on a campsite you'll see something that someone else uses and think that looks good, lets try it ! All that being said, our planned next step is to move to a slightly larger van which is more self contained. The idea being we will be better set up for 1 / 2 night stops and can travel further. We would probably have a small pop up tent / shelter alongside as well. Keep watching the channel to see what we do....! Thanks for watching and getting in touch, cheers JT

@@CampervanJourney Hi JT, thanks for that informative reply. I particularly like the California beach as its much more simple than the ocean with seating for five. Unfortunately €75,000 is a little excessive for us. We would need to use it more than we would to get real value from it. I think a really good tent might be a better option for three weeks per year on the camp sites in France/Spain, although even the look of the VW’s make me stop and stare, they are so beautiful. I’m just back from France and on the way back to the Holyhead ferry I must have counted 30 California’s (in envy). However I must be practical. I’ll check out the tent you mentioned, it must be high quality (and probably canvas) and easy to erect and take down. We are both 58 years old and I would love to think that we might travel Europe well into our retirement and hence buying a beach. As you probably know the 6.1 is being fazed out with the upcoming 7 but I don’t like the look of it. Maybe we’ll try the tent first then I’ll try persuade my wife on a California??? But I must confess I’m a little afraid she’ll say absolutely not and dash my hopes forever. Wish me luck 🍀. Sorry for the slow reply, Brian

Hi ! Thanks for your message. That's a really tricky one as all the ones we have visited have been very nice, which is why we keep going back. If you are looking for plenty to do in the near locality and tourist places to visit its hard to beat Sarlat or Saumur. If you want something more remote with beautiful local scenery, La Plage Blanc or Aiguebelette would be a good choice. Both of them are more remote, but are in lovely locations. They have recently added some more sites to their portfolio, so we have plenty more to visit... thanks for watching, remember t subscribe for more campsire reviews as we visit more locations. Cheers JT
