HERE WE GO! I was a liitle concerned about how this album was gonna turn out. Aside from Sodom and Gomorrah, I was kinda lukewarm on the singles, but Dorian was keeping all the really hot tracks a secret. These are fantastic! if ur just asking people in general - Dorian has said this album is about fame, and I def get that from this song. I think it’s about pushing away people who actually care about you as you reach for stardom (used to have somebody to lean on; standing on the grave of / everyone who used to try to save you; then I went and pushed them all away from me), and more of the people you surround yourself with are either just fans who will cheer you on no matter what (fanfare), or essentially your employees who will always agree with you or go along (they’re all saying yes / lie under duress; pay these people to laugh at my jokes) even if it’s not in your best interest. this might be the most surface level interpretation cuz i don’t think Dorian’s lyrics are often incredibly subtle so I don’t claim to be giving some great insight, but there can be some underlying subtleties like, idk, the masculine urge to push away people who are trying to nurture you (or even criticize you) in search of grander adoration and agreeability? there must be some gender going on here - it’s Dorian. oh and of course it gets darker and more uncontrolled until it’s “cut the fucking fanfare” like, enough bullshit. yeah this song is fucking incredible the whole sound and feel is just beyond, next-level Dorian Electra for sure
