Trinity, NC where the Trinity College was built and turned into the first Duke University, became a 6th grade only school called Braxton Craven. I attended this school in 2004. Unfortunately, the building is no longer used and has remained empty for about 5-10 years. Not sure if it is mold or other hazardous health reasons but we are unsure if the county is going to fix it or demolish it. The signs sits proudly in our little town. Population 7000. This is so cool that you have a story with some connection to my small town. I've discovered your podcast recently and it is one of my absolute favs!!!

FYI a Pullman Car is a railroad car. It’s not a street car. So makes more sense about having a chef.

Doris Duke was a very troubled woman. Her beloved father Buck told her when she was a child that nobody would ever love her for herself, only for her wealth. Buck also warned her to trust no one. If screwed up her approach to relationships. Her marriages were very unhappy, her only child, Arden, died shortly after her birth. Doris was a savvy business woman and greatly expanded her huge financial holdings. But she had fears of abandonment all her life. When her interior designer friend Eduardo Tirella told her he was moving on with his career and leaving her, Doris lost it and killed him with her car at her Newport estate, Rough Point. Newport had for over a century been a town of very rich people and the police department/D.A. never intended to prosecute Duke for Tirella's death. She got away with murder by founding the Newport Restoration Foundation and fixing up dozens of 18th-century houses in downtown Newport. My godparents lived in one of these homes. I visited them once and the house was beautifully restored. But there was blood money behind it.

I loved this episode! This woman's life and crimes sounded like if the movies Sunset Boulevard and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? had a baby!

Ash & Alaina, you must visit Newport and tour the mansions. They're crazy lavish and most of them have gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean. If you go in August, visit the exquisite house, Kingscote, once owned by my family a long time ago.

I love The Little Princess but The Secret Garden is my absolute favourite childhood read. I live in Scotland and theres a beautiful walled garden at a plsce called Kellie Castle in Fife and its what i imagine the secret garden was goong to be like after Mary Lennox finished the garden. This one has walkways of lavender and clinbing roses everywhere and they all meet in the centre at a sundial and if i had ever got married thats where i would have done it. Its worth a look even online.

Hate it! Reminds me of Christmas spent with relatives I hated and my uncle who would throw a fit if he lost so we HAD to let him win at EVERYTHING bearing in mind I was 8 and my brother was 4. After that year, I just point blanked refused to go and haven't been to a family gathering since. Id rather have the Papin sisters pull out my eyeballs! It's only my mothers side my dad was an only child and had one cousin, and she is my favourite aunt. She's fabulous with an extremely low tolerance to Bs 😂
