"However, due to poor sales, particularly in North America, executive producer Keiji Inafune decided to scrap the franchise, and Shadow of Rome 2 ultimately became Dead Rising." I knew I wasn't crazy when I thought a lot of the animations and general presentation of the game gave off heavy Dead Rising vibes, now I have to play this game. The PS2 has an insane amount of games I've never heard of.

What I find amazing is even after all these years of consuming video game content on KZbin. I'm still learning about new games that I didn't know existed. Which adds to my knowledge of video game mechanics has a whole. There's always some sort variation or fresh take on a system or genre. This aspect has to be my favorite part of video games in general.

I'm not opposed to it, but like bridgesbane said, many others have talked about it as well. I do need to intermix my random niche games with more popular entries to appeal to the masses, though, so I'll take notice of how many likes your mass effect comment gets.

I loved this game as a kid, I will never forget a level where you had to defeat enemies and pick up a wooden sword, being younger I never paid attention to the mission objectives and never understood why I would always fail the mission even though I destroyed anyone who entered the arena, only when I replayed the game in my teens did I realise that level actually wasn't that hard when read the objectives and you just search for the sword haha. Fully agree about the difficulty though, so hard towards the end and boss fight after boss fight, I don't believe I ever beat the very final boss, but just getting there felt like a victory. Awesome Critique Dork!

I remember that sword one, I was confused at first, too, I think I ran out of time. I don't know if it's RNG or X amount of female warriors need to spawn or something? They're the enemies that hold it, but none of them have it when you load in. Either way, we got through it, hazah!

Watching this and the Colosseum game being reviewed made me want a hack and slash roguelike set in a gladiatorial arena. Combine the point system and dismemberment from this game, the RPG elements (like the looting aspect) of Colosseum, and the end goal of attaining freedom, a few bosses, a bunch of different moves depending on the weapon and weapon layout you have. And that's something I'd definitely play. Idk seems like it could be a really fun idea.
@Dorkaxe

Yeah I agree, that sounds sick! Take the best parts of each game. The only thing that looks similar right now is in early access on steam, called "We Who Are About To Die"...a pretty bad name imo, very hard to track down just now, but still, people seem to like it. Roguelite gladiator game.

@@Dorkaxe In case you (or anyone else) may be interested. There is also "Alina of the Arena". But that is a deckbuilder roguelike (like Slay the Spire) with hex positioning during combat so it's not exactly what I'm talking about. But I have heard good things about it.

I wanted to comment a reply to one thing you said in your Star Wars Episode III game review: you said you wish there was a fighting game like Tekken but in Star Wars... Well, there is, it's called Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi and I played it on the PS1. Maybe you already knew but I wanted to answer since that comment of yours stirred up some old memories haha. the tailing segment probably could've been improved if they made it super easy to avoid detection, so that you'd do it for a good long while before being caught, but also make it to where the same cutscene where he reveals he knew it was you was used no matter where you got caught less involved gameplay? maybe, but i think it'd fit better contextually

Yeah not gonna lie, I was guessing this was a japanese game due to the Salvo System, it has that Japenese Arcade, along with the feeling of epic goffyness and seriousness, no to mention charatcer design, it has japanese/anime vibes all over, something most Western studios wouldnt touch. It wouldnt suprise me if people who never heard of this game, took one look at some non-boss scenes and went "... this isnt an american game." Honeslty its a pity we didnt get Shadows of Rome 2, cause I really wanted to see what sort of epic goffyness would come out of Cleopatra and other characters.

Inafune said that Shadow of Rome 2 would have been just that: "KI: Yeah, hypothetically-speaking -- we're not planning this -- but if we were going to make Shadow of Rome 2, we'd get rid of all the stealth elements and give all the violence you hurried through the stealth parts to get to. How I view games for potential videos is a three way equation. How much I've personally been requested to do it, how much interest I have in it, how much has the game been covered already. God of War isn't something I'm particularly interested in, have only gotten requests here and there, and is one of the more popular gaming franchises out there with plenty of long videos on them as it is. Anything is possible, but I doubt it'll happen.
