For spices, I packed similar common spices and made blends of spices from my kitchen for example, a Mexican blend, Asian blend and Montreal steak seasoning. 5 years later, my son tells me his favorite was the Mexican blend.

Hi Nikki, I am amazed at your design sense and color coordination on a budget. These ideas are great for Senior citizens who are downsizing and for anyone who wants to conserve space. For those of us on a tight budget you have shown us just how beautiful one can organize their kitchen. Although this video was done for a dorm room the ideas can be used for Seniors or anyone who may be moving into a small space. Thank you for for sharing your wonderful ideas for so many people to use especially those of us with challenging resources. Your videos are so positive and inspiring!!

Love this video series! Great dorm room tips! I love that you stuck to the necessities. It's so easy to go crazy and buy a ton of non essential items for the dorm room. I remember my freshman year I was trying to buy all kinds of crazy stuff. My mom stopped me when she saw me looking up emergency generators online haha! Send your cousin my best wishes. College is an amazing time in every young adults life. My biggest tip for her would be to utilize all of the free resources on campus. I work at a University in the Career Services department and we do so much for students. She can get her resume reviewed, attend workshops, find internships, etc. It's never too early to get her name out there! I also recommend introducing yourself to your professors. I used to go in to their office hours and just say my name and my class and the usual. Professors will remember that and when they know of any opportunities they are more likely to pass them off to the student they know :) Sorry for the long comment. God Bless

Looks like you thought of everything. As I was watching this video, I remembered that I needed to replace my daughter's pizza tray for her dorm room, so thank you. Absolutely love the color scheme. Packing things in bins was a great idea. We didn't do that last year but I bought several at the end of the school year so this year we are set. I wish I had you to help us last year. Great job. Great job!! She's so lucky to have your help :D I love that her supplies are all in containers! When people share a space and everything is loose in cabinets and drawers, half your stuff is broken or missing by the end of the semester and everyone will say they don't know anything about it lol. I do think she needs one or two full size cookware, though. College students like making hamburger helper, spaghetti, frozen stir fry bags, etc. She's living with 3 other people so they're going to inevitably become friends and cook and share sometimes. Plus, college kids in dorms and apartments like inviting friends over for movie night, study night, etc. It's fun for them to play "host" or "grown up" for their first time living away from home, if you catch my drift.
@AtHomeWithNikki9 жыл бұрын

No, thank you! I love your videos. So many of your choices come from discount stores but with the way you put them together, they don't look discount at all! Another tip is for your cousin to have all her own stuff from the get-go. In the beginning when everything is kumbaya, kids will say, oh I have a frying pan so you get a pot and we'll share... but before you know it, someone used your pan last night and left it on the stove with dried food stuck in it. Now that you want to use it, they're out of the house or asleep. So you either have to scrape up and wash someone else's mess or be put in the awkward situation of knocking on their door and asking them to come out and clean it. It just makes for a messy situation (pun intended lol). I say, get her one non stick pan with high sides. It's like a pan and pot all in one :D

I absolutely love this! I wish I had thought of this when I first moved out. I do have one complaint, and it's the Farberware can opener. I bought one when I first moved out and the little bugger broke with the first can I tried to open. However, it is inexpensive so I wasn't too let down, but if it does happen, I know Walmart and Big Lots have other ones that do not have plastic handles and those worked much better. Anyway, thank you for sharing, I can't wait to see the rest of this series.

Rockilyyy Thanks for the heads up on the can opener. Hopefully ours will hold up. I got this one from Big Lots. Seemed pretty sturdy, but we will see. Hope you are doing great! Hugs. Nik

Nikki, this video was amazing. You always show me exactly what I need to purchase. My daughter is going away to college this year so this video was helpful. I can't wait to see all the other video's that you put together. I thought about you when I went into the new Tuesday Morning on Rivers Ave. Have you made it in there yet? Again. Thanks for all the the good ideas. I wish you were able to come along and help me shop for my new house. Blessings, Candra

EYECANDY ARTISTRY Thank you so much Candra! So glad it could be helpful. OH YES MY FRIEND! I was there the other day and LOVE IT. It was so nice and organized (and stocked beautifully). I think that is going to be my new Tuedsay Morning go-to store. Perhaps we will run into each other there one day! Hope you are having a great day. Hugs. Nik

Wow! I've never been to college but if I had I would have wished to have you organise what I'd need. Organising for college should be a prerequisite to buying college needs. At the very least a book. I mean a Nikki College Basics to get the first steps right. We all know how to buy a lot of stuff but to have what is needed and organised is a must. It takes away the excuses and clutter brain that makes study more difficult. Can't wait to see it finished. Assuming there is a college list of what can and cannot be brought into a dorm: - How much time did it take to put it all together? - What were the additional items? - How much extra time would be devoted in the planning and gathering? - How much time would it save on moving in day (or how long did it take)? - Will you do a follow up with your cousin to see how it works and how it could be streamlined (I'd be surprised but ya never know.) Perhaps at regular intervals to see how it continues to assist with college life. - Do they know how lucky they are to have you do this for them? I imagine something similar could be done for someone moving out of home for the first time? Love your work. Narelle X

My mother use to drop-off the top roman bowls from Costco and White Tuna and Olives from Costco when I moved into my first studio in San Francisco :) all my paycheck went to rent so I had nothing for food. felt like I was back in college.
