I get misty-eyed just seeing the tiered parking lot and then looking down into the park with all of the rides in-motion. Typically, my parents would park down by the trees near to the lake where the swan boats glided quietly across the water. Mom and Dad brought a picnic lunch packed in our large Coleman cooler. We'd go and ride some rides as soon as we got to Dorney Park. I remember walking-in through the trees where the Coaster's track ran. The Coaster flashed overhead in the treetops as made our way in. Maybe Heaven has a Dorney Park from 1968 or so.

I've been sharing this with friends and my kids who are 13 and 11. Let's them see 👀 what I grew up with and how Dorney has changed. I work their for 2 years when the water park started. Great memories before and after.

I loved those boats when I was a kid! Amazing so much lasted there through the 80's. I was born in 81 and I remember all of those rides!

I loved the old Dorney Park as a child. Thank you for sharing these precious memories. Was glad to see the old Merry-Go-Round, which was destroyed in a fire a couple years after your trip. We'd always race to get one of the horses that went up and down, you had to look up to see if it had that mechanism. So wonderful that you took this footage of your family at a time when it wasn't so easy to do so. Nice camera work!

Dorney was a wonderful park. I have many awesome memories from the 70's and 80's up until they changed ownership and proceeded to destroy the family nature that had existed for decades. The stock car track was my favorite place and I still miss it. I used to ride the bumper cars and the Indy 500 ride over and over. My father's band once had a 5 day gig at the bandshell and I got to go to the park all week and I never got bored. As for the current establishment, I leave it to the busloads of a-holes that seem to like it there. I take my young children two hours further away to Knoebel's so they can enjoy themselves like I did when I was their age. Thanks for your movies, they are greatly appreciated!

Went every summer through the 70's up to 1986 when I graduated from high school. The Iceberg was my favorite ride. Last time I went to ride the Hercules when that first opened. Haven't been back since. 😢

So happy I found this video! Thank you so much for sharing!!!! I grew up in Topton and was at Dorney Park several times every summer. In 1981 my friends and I would go on Sundays to Castle Gardens for rollerskating from 1:00-4:00 and sometimes go into the Park and do the rides after skating. So many special memories there.

Thanks i have been trying to find any video of the merry go round that had burned down. A fond memory from my childhood. I use to watch the Wurlitzer play and fascinate watching the drums and cymbals play by themselves, hmm I'm thinking it may have been an Italian music box that played. I have not been back to the park since my childhood in the 70s since i was in US Air Force then live now in California. So i had the first look at the park since my childhood it was a powerful piece of memorabilia, thank you thank you !

Great post! Look at all of those open fields in the background shots from the terraced parking lot. Who would have known then that just a few years later the waterpark and all the additional development in the area would occur? I also remember it cost 50 cents to park in that lot and how we'd get in trouble kicking all the loose stones walking down the hill into the park.

when I go to Dorney park I always think about how this park looks like from the 80's which likes a lot different miss most of the rides that where there. and tell my children about these rides journey to the center of the earth the ice berg and the bucket of blood and also told them need ride like that there and better roller coaster like for example coaster in the dark coaster like a mummy which would be inside a building full of stuff jumping out and maybe a few hoops roller coaster like the hulk has a one more a coaster that goes straight up and down on the other sider which they called it kingda ka there is good name for new rides at Dorney park Pa. (Dorney island ,scoop and the old names for the old rides that uses to be there) bring Dorney back from the the 80's was awesome ideas that may bring Dorney park Pa. alive thanks kelly
