Dorothy Dandridge was born 102 years ago [on her next birthday] and died 59 years ago. Nobody who knew her would still be alive today. People who keep making videos about her were not living during her lifetime. They keep repeating stories that have already been told or making up new stories. She did not call her manager and ask him to delay picking her up to go to the airport. Obviously, she would have missed her flight. She called and asked him to make a later doctor's appointment for her because she'd been up late talking to her Mother and the lady who was scheduled to pack her wardrobe trunk. Her death certificate plainly states acute drug intoxication. ingestion of tofranil---accident--suicide-undetermined. That was the final toxicology report. In recent years, it's been pointed out that medication during that time, the '60s, didn't have the warning labels that they have today, about maximum dosage, and mixing medication with other medication or alcohol. Consequently, there were a lot of sudden deaths such as hers, Nick Adams, Dinah Washington Pier Angeli, Judy Garland, Robert Walker. and Alan Ladd. The story keeps being repeated that she died with only two dollars. She died with a signed contract for one hundred thousand dollars for two movies and she was scheduled to open at the renowned Basin Street East in New York the Friday of the week she died. Career wise things could not have been better for her. There were no notes found in her apartment. Earl MILLs had the "IN CASE OF Death" note for quite some time. It was treated as a will. The "whatever happens I KNOW you'll understand" is another story that keeps being repeated. There is no evidence that she ever said that. The story keeps being repeated that Otto Preminger said she should turn down the supporting role in "The King and I" IT was her 20th Century contract signed on February 15th, 1955 that said she should turn it down, not PRIMINGEr. Her contract was for star roles not supporting roles. She turned down the role in The King & I because it did not meet the terms of her contract and roles in Aida and Rigoletto because, in her own words, which can be viewed on KZbin, she wanted her next film after Carmen to be as far away from Carmen as possible. She did not go for years without making a film. Under the terms of her contract, she made at least one movie a year with a starring role In 1958 there were two movies. The. story keeps being repeated in every video about her affair with Preminger and the abortion. These stories started after their deaths. She only had one child during her 1st marriage and no children during her second marriage. It's not plausible that the lady who sued Confidential Magazine in 1957 for printing a story about her that wasn't true would put her career and reputation at risk by getting involved with an ugly, bald-headed married man who was old enough to be her Father during the 1950s when abortions were illegal and unlike today, it was no socially accepted for an unmarried woman to be pregnant. The dipped her toe in the pool story was also supposed to have happened to Hazel Scott. I'm sure neither one of them would have accepted engagements in a hotel if they couldn't use the pool. People don't keep breaking into apartments as long as the apartment door is locked Her apartment on Fountain Ave was large enough to have a balcony. There are no videos or actual quotes from any newspaper article, or magazine article where Miss Dandridge mentions Marilyn Monroe or where Miss Monroe mentions Miss Dandridge. Neither one had any reason to think about the other one at all People keep saying they were friends. There are no documents showing that they knew each other at all.

Otto Preminger didn't direct "Bright Road". It was directed by Gerald Mayer, the nephew of the head of MGM, Louis B. Mayer. Also, I think that the $2.00 to her name was a salacious tidbit used to sell a book. Unfortunately, people are drawn to tragedy and like Marilyn Monroe, the idea of Dorothy as the tragic beauty/victim still sells.
