Featuring yet another beautiful, understated performance from the under-rated, often overlooked (as incredible as that sounds!) Dorothy McGuire.

The closest Miss Dorothy McGuire came to being the fallen woman and she does it magnificiently in A Summer Place. This old fashion, dated masterpiece is a depiction of love as it used to be in the innocence of literature and motion pictures and it makes a lot of us wish we could truly turn back time. It is not to late to watch how movies of love used to be and still feel the emotion. It was sensational. One a lot of us should see and get chills.

I love this scene in the movie. Richard Egan...hunk..!! Connie Ford was pretty terrific too. Great character actress. Beulah Bondi has a nice part, as a sweet little old lady.
@georgepenton8085 жыл бұрын
Beulah Bondi I like---at first you think she is a dumb old bitty but then she shows how shrewd and intelligent she is. Dorothy McGuire does a terrible job in this movie----she might as well have phoned in her lines. Constance Ford and Arthur Kennedy put in lackluster performances. Troy Donahue can't act at all. Richard Egan is quite good in this movie. But Sandra Dee is GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! She made the movie. How about Bette Davis in the Constance Ford part? That would have been killer.

@@georgepenton808 *biddy. Among the many film mothers this never-a-mother actress played was to George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life (1944). In it her character was maternally sweet, until the Scroogean sequence of George visiting a Bedford Falls had he never been born, and meeting and greeting her as "Mother!" is rudely spurned by her as an unfulfilled old biddy.

Mature adults in love...what a rare thing these days. Actually, we never see love like this anymore in films. In the 50"s men like Eagen were the norm. Currently can we find a guy with this much masculine appeal anywhere in film? John Hamm, Denzel Washington...I can think no further.

Yes, when you age, it's the older couple you identify with. I feel for them both because they married such horrible spouses. I relate to Dorothy McGuire's charactor becuase I too, married for the wrong reasons. Th turmoil of after living with this drunk and then years later you meet your soulmate, but you cannot do anything because you have morals, and a child. These people can't cheat,but in reality it is they who have been cheated on by their miserable spouses. I say go for it!

The kids are better off-being with people who truly love each other and show their kids wha true love is. When that idiot has the doctor there after Sandra Dee comes in makes me sick. That first step to happiness is going to the hardest one to take. But once you do, how great if feels to get that 'marroon' ' off your back and out of your life . I 'd run so fast away there would be a cloud of dust so big even the roadrunner would get passed up!
