Dorthy Molter | Alone in the Boundary Waters

Dorothy Molter, called the loneliest person in the United States was the last legal resident of the BWCA. For 56 years she lived on Knife Lake where she greeted canoeists with a warm smile and a glass of cold homemade root beer.
Perhaps you were lucky enough to stop at her cabin for a root beer.
Her story is part of the incredible history of the BWCA. It's also the subject of a one-woman show playing at the History Theatre in St. Paul.

What a happy discovery! I travelled the BWCA and Quetico many times back in the 80's, never heard of Dorthy. Fond memories of Cliff Wold. But I also love root beer, so a case is now excitedly on order from the museum. Madison, WI. Thank you!
