I kindy like the idea of having Blackthorne's Kyle as a PC in Heroes of the Storm 😆 Yeah, thats the only moba I play and only against IA. Sometimes people get toxic in those games 🤭

@@huaweisaturno1474 Sometimes? I liked LOL in its first few years, I really did. I didn't play it religiously but I did a good few times a week. And it was fun. But then it got progressively more and more toxic, and you'd have stop playing with headphones and look at chat. Still, not the reason why I quit. ;)

Prehistorik! I played that as a kid. And Prehistorik 2. :D Of course I didn't finish either of them though, because I kept mis-jumping. I do remember the music being different though... I'm not sure what sound card we had back then. Most likely PC speaker. :P BTW, the red signs in caves teleport you outside of a different cave entrance. So you can go in there and explore that one too. :) I've played Dangerous Dave in a haunted mansion setting. I'd say this first game in the series that you're showing much rather resembles Apogee platformers than Mario. Especially the sounds. I think those sounds are engraved in my mind. XD Blackthorne is a real hidden gem and I really want to play it at some point. :) Maybe in B.I.G. you can lie prone and shoot like that if they can still get you when you crouch?

I chose Roland MT-32 instead of Soundblaster I think for the music in Prehistorik, so this may be the case. Blackthorne is really good, and probably the most polished out of all games in the video. B.I.G. might as well be called S.H.I.T., so Sadistically Hard Indubitably Turd. It's interesting but terrible.

Indeed the music of Prehistoric sounds different to me too. The notes are the same but the acoustic result seems different. I think it is midi, so the sound depends on the samples of the sound card.

@@OldAndNewVideoGames Oh, wow, you're right. I've just started it up again in DosBOX and the default music is what you had in the video. So I tweaked the settings a bit, got to the sound menu and Soundblaster was familiar too, but I remembered there was something else before that. Something more... jarring. :D It was the IBM card, that's what I had. Now it sounds right! XD
@TeaAndFloppyDisks
@TeaAndFloppyDisks 3 ай бұрын
@@SocratesFil Apparently it's MDI, so sort of kind of but not exactly MIDI. Roland MT-32 definitely has some distinct sounds. I don't think a lot of people could afford it though, so maybe you also had a different sound card.

I find it fun that you went with Jetpack christmas edition instead of the original. Why? Well. Because for the longest time i thought that the christmas one was the original. After playing the christmas so long i actually found the original and thought it wierd that i found some reskin hack thingie. And actively looked for the “original” again… good times.

I think they were more challenging. Some games today, even the good funny ones are sometimes too easy. I think the save or checkpoint is more for long history rich games 😊

One of the great things about emulation is that you get saves, pause and accelerated time for free. DOSBox is a lot more limited than, say, Atari ST or Amiga emulators, though. But that's where Hyper-V comes to the rescue! :D

Sacred Armour of Antiriad Was epic on the ZX Spectrum where I first played it. Never plaid the PC version but honestly it looks a little worse visually? Chuckie Egg was a legend in the 8bit era & again I played it on the Spectrum as well as on my mate’s C64. I don’t think I ever plaid Dangerous Dave on any platform? It looks fun but still very 8bit? Look at Prehistorik compared to the previous 2 games, it looks light years ahead! Plus if you don’t like hitting things with a clu… *hang on?!* “A BLT, hold the BL & the [] T” would just be 2 slices of bread?! 😂 Never plaid ELF? It seems to have its fans though? Never played Jetpack: Christmas Special? Played a LOT of Jetpack on the Spectrum but I don’t know if we got the Xmas game? Blackthorn is fantastic! A very under rated, under remembered game & one any retro gamer should check out. Believe it or not I’ve plaid through it on GBA of all platforms. 😄 I don’t know Cold Dreams? By ‘95 I was all about 3D (& 2.5D) games & wouldn’t have given Cold Dreams a second look, which as a shame because there were a lot of good games I just dismissed as old hat. Quadrax looks even less sophisticated but again I think I missed out in my search for 3D. Oh good grief! B.I.G has not aged well graphically! I mean pre-rendered graphics don’t generally but good lord, that’s an eyesore but as I’ve said before it's always interesting to see games we didn’t get here. great list, thanks. This was quite the mixed bag for this one but that’s a good thing.

You know what? I'm not surprised. Even with colour clash, ZXs 8 unique colours were much more than CGA's 4-colour nightmare. xD There's quite a few Dangerous Dave games, and they're all fun, and all a bit different from one another. Though the earlier were more impressive than the latter, that had a pretty solid competition already. There was no hold "B" in BLT. I always keep the B. L and T though, are optional. ;) Blackthorne was actually pretty successful on the consoles. 3D in any of its early iterations was interesting, and definitely "it" back then, and I feel that most of us missed out on great games chasing that elusive third dimension. B.I.G. is $hit. But it's also pretty interesting and seems to have a lot going for it. Sadly, one of the things it has, is not gameplay or responsive controls. So, uhm... Crap. xD

Rad Warrior / Antiriad can be considered the father of the Metroid-like gameplay, in fact both games appeared on the same year. Instead of Metroidvania, we should talk about Antiroid or Metroidriad.
