The idea was (still is actually) for first leg, so first 10 years to go from 1993 to 2002. And we're slowly getting to its end now. And the second leg (most likely just dropping the "Early" from its naming if I decide to change anything), and it should cover 2003 to 2012. I can't really tell you if I'll be doing the third yet, as it's months away at this point. :)

Of these, only really played Mechwarrior 4, I was too busy or tired at the time to spend much time on many games. Like most Battletech games, it had a classical story and gave me a long-time hatred of House Steiner (the baddies of Vengeance), even though you're one of the Inner Sphere freebirths instead of playing for clan Ghost Bear.

@@OldAndNewVideoGames The original Mechwarrior 2. That game was pure immersion and feeling. Mw2: Ghost Bear's Legacy is a close second. The music in the first is just awesome and the other has unforgettable missions, letting you battle in space, at the bottom of the sea, and having you run away from a huge reactor that's about to blow up (because you blew it up :D ). But I can't fault other old games either, Mechcommander, Crescen't Hawks Inception/Revenge, Mechwarrior 3 and all the versions of 4. They all just take you by the neck and slam you face first into combat in the 31st century. I haven't tried the more recent ones, only having heard that though technically superior, the writing and immersion can't compare to the older games. I've steered clear of them so I wouldn't feel disappointed with an old beloved series.

@@janneaalto3956 I don't want you to take it the wrong way, but... (On a side note, nothing good ever starts with "A..., but... B") I'm the kind of a person that doesn't jump into anything with overinflated expectations (unless it's Fallout then yeah, I do, and have been disappointed more than once by now) which allows me to take most things in the way they are, not the way most judge them. And that's also why, I'm one of 7 people in the World to have enjoyed Mass Effect Andromeda. Because while objectively speaking the writing on the first three was way better, the gameplay fluidity, role playing elements and combat was tons better in Andromeda. And I would've never know if I'd listen to online reviews. Not saying that you should do the same. But if you're ever bored, perhaps it will be interesting to give one of them newer one a chance. Perhaps they may fail a little in the writing, but maybe the combat will make up for it? It's not a lecture, I'm in no position to lecture anyone. It's a suggestion to consider another point of view. :) Also, I often get angry comments because of that trait of mine, cause if I'm not talking about really terrible games, I tend to forgive the others a lot. Stuff that most can't accept. But I just love gaming. :)

Sacrifice seems more interesting than I’d thought? Could be worth a look, from what you’ve described? Rollcage 1 is a blast to play. It’s very much the “Wipeout on wheels” cliché but it actually does it well but I’ve never played Rollcage 2 but I do have a G400 MAX I want to drop in to a permanent retro build, so Rollcage 2 & others like Expendable would be good for showing off the tech but it appears to be rare & expensive on original physical media? 😕 Starlancer is legendary, that’s why many people backed Star Citizen. It still plays great & honestly it’s simplicity appeals to some. I really should give Nox a play? There’s no real reason I haven’t played it, you just can’t play everything. The fog of was mechanic isn’t much different to some games like it. I get the Diablo comparison but it looks maybe a bit more Legacy of Kain? This is sacrilege but I hate Final Fantasy VIII. There, I said it! It played great & the cutscenes looked incredible for the time, even if they’ve aged now but good grief the dialogue! It just goes on & on & drags gameplay to a leaden halt. I remember being over half an hour late to a social event because my ex insisted on reading (yes reading it’s almost all text) through *1 single conversation!* to be fair she wasn’t the quickest reader back then but she wasn’t the slowest either! Rant over, sorry. I kind of assumed Grand Prix 3 would be too much of a sim for my liking but if it can be a bit more arcadeish it may be worth a play? Great list, thanks. Whilst there are some games I haven’t commented on because they’re not for me they all have great reputations & are worth a look if they are your thing but there are some greats here & a couple I should try to playing.

Sacrifice is definitely interesting. It's not entirely my thing, but most should like it. :) Is this build far along? Have you ever played Freelancer? Nox is great, you'll love it. I'm not gonna get into any details or specifics, but it's definitely one not to miss. Well, thos JRPGs tend to have a lot of dialogue and story behind them. There's a certain charm to it, and I do like it. I don't really dig them when they turn real-time. Though I did enjoy the latest Dragon Warrior few years back. And if you're into arcade racers more than sims, then even with the options I'd go for something else. GP3 is arcadeish when set up properly (improperly), but not arcade. :) If I were you and had to pick one to try out from these, I'd go for Nox.

I really like the stories you come up with for some of the characters where there often isn't one. Winning in Mechwarrior 4 by dance battles is something that would actually be really cool. But. It would have to be a mech dance battle. And since the main character you play as is a proficient ballet dancer, you're sure to win against your opponents who most likely only know how to do one dance move: the robot. :D I haven't played any of the Final Fantasies and all those names sure were hard to follow. :D But it sounds like an interesting game to try. For some odd reason, Sacrifice reminds me a lot about Black & White. Maybe it's the strange gameplay or the look of the graphics. Do you see any resemblance? Your boss' wife claiming to be a creature of the light... Oh, the irony. :P Also, no, wishful thinking doesn't cure cancer. To lighten up the wall of text, I'd like to add that I also take my tea in mugs. :D

Thank you! Fictional or not, everyone deserves a story. ;) Most FF games are great if you don't mind walls of text and dialogues heavy gameplay. Also, a very, let's say, eastern type of dialogues. I've played most older and newer but somehow managed to skip those that are considered the best. In my opinion though it's mine and mine alone, B&W is a much better game :) And mugs are nearly always a better choice. :)

I like Starlancer though it annoys me that all the fighters you fly have multiple crew members. IMO General Purpose Fighters should only have a Pilot and no other crew with multi person crews reserved for Heavy Bombers or special role Fighters. There a single one person Starfighter in Starlancer but its an enemy craft. I still wonder what South America and the non-Middle Eastern portions of Africa are up to during the conflict. Ahh Baldur's Gate II if memory serves the first RPG I completed an optional romance in though not the first game (That slot went to Star Control II) My heroic Thief still romances Aeries every time I play. Edit: I honestly forgot Bard was in the original release of II and not added to the enhanced edition. I play both Thieves and Bards a lot in the AD&D games that include both but their taste in romance would remain the same. Merchwarrior IV is IMO where the series started going downhill. I want to lo love it because its focused on one world early in the conflict which my favorite novels in the franchise covered. And I don't mind the hardpoint system in theory but IMO they made three massive mistakes with it in this game. First if you are going to limit what weapon types a Mech can mount you need a variety Mechs that can fit every reasonable loadout type which this game lacks. Second adding Jump Jets and special gear should never be restricted. And third Omnimechs shouldn't have loadout restrictions at all because what makes Omnimechs so special is how easily their loadout can be changed to suit a pilot's wishes, a mission's requirements, or a strategic situation (If running low on Ammo replacing Missile Launchers and Projectile weapons with Lasers and Particle Projection Cannons for example) My favorite Mechs are pretty simple. Heavy class (So 60 to 75 toms), jump jet equipped and armed with nothing but energy weapons for offense (A ammo dependent defense system is ok.) None of the Mechs in the Mechwarrior IV base game fit all three criteria despite the fact that two Mechs which fit all three are manufactured in the nations the conflict takes place in (Including my all time favorite Mech) and were widely used by both sides and a third design fitting all three criteria manufactured in another nation was used some by both sides. To get a Mech I liked in the base game I had to take a 65 ton Missile Heavy design then strip the Missile Launchers and add the biggest Lasers the game would allow me to mount in its Energy weapon slots. It was tolerable but badly under-gunned for its size. Edit: Also your family got attacked by their own nation. A Civil War was brewing in the two nations ruled by Kathrine/Katrina Steiner-Davion and most of your family were dissidents opposing the current ruler. Basically while individuals and units from both nations were rebels and loyalists in the conflict your nation and family tended to favor Kathrine/Katrina's older brother Victor. (Legally Kathrine/Katrina wasn't qualified to rule the nation your world belonged to because there's a law that the ruler has to have served a number of years in a frontline military unit and she never joined the military unlike all of her siblings. She basically claimed the throne by tricking her younger sister who was Victor's regent while he was travelling to the Clan homeworlds and back, a journey that takes over a year each way if memory serves, into letting her take the regency then she exiled Victor when he returned. Which was also illegal because the nation's laws forbid anyone who has served as a regent from ever claiming the throne permanently) I love Dark Reign 2 though getting it to run on a Windows 11 machine was a pain even with the GOG release. I usually play as the Sprawlers because the Missile Launcher armed Hover-trike units remind me of more advanced NOD Attack Cycles from Command and Conquer, and I love underdogs I think Earth 2150 was the first game in the series I played. I usually play as the Lunar Corporation or the UCS in 2150. The former has my favorite vehicle frames while the latter has my favorite weapon types And I personally love Final Fantasy VIII. Its either my fourth or fifth favorite game in the series depending on my mood (I've played all the main series games besides the MMOs, XVI and the first part of the VII Remake because Rebirth's changes to the story were potentially more interesting then part one's) I've also played many of the spinoff games) And Quistis is still my favorite female character in the main series.
