@Brandon Goodman It is a sign of good story-telling that one feels for the characters. I react with sympathy and compassion, you (in this instance) with disdain for some reason. I think you probably treat real people the way you treat these fictional children--without kindness. At least that is the impression you've created. I think initially Flora wasn't her first name but Jamie had to make some changes in the story to make sure the kids don't remember any of it when she's telling it. Bly is actually their summer house and also Viola just walks randomly whenever she wakes not everyday or a specific time so it is possible she may left unnoticed by the family. I love that Jamie essentially changed the story. The mansion was never called Bly. The names were never real. But the story is very real for her-for them. Dani kept the Viola's rage because unlike her, she has someone dear to her. Viola was abandoned and her will kept her from moving on. Dani had Jamie by her side and it is her will that would prevent the Lady in the Lake from taking anyone
@evelyn81644 жыл бұрын
I want to point out something that I read. Jaime talked about love and possession. Viola turned into something evil and her memories faded because she held possession. Dani however, will never forget Jaime or their time together because she sacrificed herself for love. I like to think that Dani's sacrifice was selfless enough that her soul will be able to move on. Viola's gravity was all about possessiveness and selfishness. Dani stopped that with love, which is the opposite of all that. (Much like Dani and Jamie discussed in episode 3.) So I think, ultimately, her soul (and probably Viola's by extension) is free to cross over but she's just sticking around for Jamie as her "unfinished business" in the sweetest sense. Then she'll pass on when Jamie does and they'll be together in whatever afterlife there is.
@Eitaklane4 жыл бұрын
YESS! And I love how this idea goes back to the conversation (I believe) Jamie has with Hannah about love and possession in regards to Rebecca and Peter. Also, relating to Viola’s physical possessions (clothes and jewelry) tethering her down to Bly and that intertwining with her love/possessiveness over her daughter.

Hill House was amazing because it dared to bring something fresh and different to the Horror genre. Flanagan was never going to just do a re-tread, which would have been easier. Instead, he went for a different setting, a different tone and a different story. Same emotion and the same mosaic style that makes it feel like a mystery unfolding piece by piece. And like Hill House, it's even better on a 2nd watch, when you understand all the subtle beats that you missed first time round. Great reaction, you two.

I've seen a lot of reactions now. I think the brightness level of the screen you're watching the show on has a real effect on how people view the scene where Dani let's the Lady in the Lake possess her. If the screen were set to a higher brightness setting, you can see the color of Dani's left eye change from Blue to Brown signifying her new occupant. Most people don't have their brightness set very high so it's missed and people routinely question why she had such a weird face.

HAH! I'm glad your reaction vid for the final episode came out so soon! I loved watching your reaction for the whole series. I binged episode 7-9 at one go cause they kept ending on the cliffhanger of Dani being choked. It's sad to think that Jamie assumed Dani was wondering the grounds of Bly, harmless as a dove till today and forgot about their memories together when in fact Dani was right there with her. Their conversation about love and possession/ love and ownership was the highlight to all the relationships at bly. Viola loved her possession (her clothes) and she was stubborn enough to keep wanting to see her daughter after nearly 400 years. Same with Rebecca and Peter's love. Then you have the missed love between Hannah and Owen. Neither one ever expressed their love towards each other. Lastly, you have Dani and Jamie who knows love and ownership are opposites. Dani willingly sacrificed herself for the kids and for Jamie. She refused to take Jamie with her.

This is a story about something bigger: how people live on after they die. Viola became a monster. Dani accepts her death and lives on in the memories of Jamie - and now, thanks to the story she tells, she will live on in Flora's memories. I think it's what Anthony said, that Viola just wasn't killing people who were on the bed, like that plague victim. The other thing is that Dominic was away a lot, so if Viola went up there during that time, she'd most likely find Charlotte alone. Maybe that doesn't make a difference, but it's something. :) I kinda wish they hadn't done the same ending for two straight episodes, because it's part of what I call the binge hook. I hope you both do a reaction to Midnight Mass which is the next series by Mike and also the one closest to his heart because he actually started to write it as a book but never was able to finish it so he did so with the tv show. That show has the actor of Owen,the actress of Theo,the actor of the father in Hill house/ the actor of Henry here in Bly Mannor and the actress of Steve's wife in Hill House returning as very different characters yet again and the story is completely different than the other two that came before it.

I fell immediately in love with Hannah, dunno why, her whole aura was so gentle and beautiful, though her story, all the back and forth confused me as much as it made me sad, Owen's dreams and hopes of a happy life with her were heartbreaking to listen to, knowing that she's dead. Rebecca's death reaaally pissed me off, Peter was a selfish SOB Flora and Miles... Adorable, but terrifying at times, the kids did a wonderful job Henry's redemption was amazing, how he stood up to his... Inner demon? Guilty conscience? Dani kept me so tense, though she wasn't my favorite caracter lol sorry, but the development of her relationship with Jamie was lovely, but also heartbreaking, how they tried to be happy and normal, Jamie's words to Dani on the flower shop and then the way Dani hid the ring inside the plant and asked her to marry her made me cry Seeing Owen on his restaurant was heartwarming, and how he kept Hannah's memory was lovely Dani's suicide and how Jamie tried to get her out of the lake but couldn't, got me crying ugly, and again after she finishes the story and later, in Flora's wedding she sees them all, young again, it was so bittersweet..... @MrSteve-hy9yo4 жыл бұрын
She will not move on. It was explained in the story, Dani becomes the new lady of the lake so viola is still with Dani but Dani keeps her in check so no more murderous rage. However since Dani is part of Viola and Viola cannot pass on to the next life, Dani is forced to endure her eternal dreams and awakening as Viola is prone to have. That's the sad part because viola cannot move on since she has forgotten her true self and purpose. Now Dani will eventually become like Viola and likely forget everyone at some point. Likely when Jamie passes on will Dani eventually forget and just wander like Viola did except without the murders.
