Dave, What's your opinon on API Calcium and Alkalinity test kits? I actually think the alk is accurate as each drop represents 1dkh and turns from blue to yellow soon as levels are met. I've never used salifert and would assume you've used them all.

hello dave, i really enjoyed watching your video. please keep them coming. i have a question that i hope to hear from you. there are so many types and branding of "additives" for reef aquarium available. that it is almost impossible for a beginner to buy all without bursting the purse string. what "basic set" would you recommend to start off first if i have a nano aquarium with fish only and live rocks. i really like those rocks with reddish healthy looking red coralline algae. how do i achieve that? many thanks again for producing informative videos. joseph. singapore

Hi Vivid Aquariums, I have a heavily dominated SPS Red Sea Max 130D which drains the calcium etc... Would it work if I dosed a standard amount of calcium, alkalinity and magnesium per week rather than testing everyday, then adjusting the amount I dose. Would this work or would it be too much and would this be a problem? Because testing and dosing testing and dosing every day seems a bit excessive as I'm only an intermediate reefer. Thanks!

I am having serious problems trying to get to a pH of over 7.8 (and staying there). I use Red Sea NO3:PO4-X (carbon dosing). I noticed you said that if we do carbon dosing, we need to keep alkalinity lower, 7 to 7.5 dKH (mine is 14+ dKH, thanks to eight.four). My calcium is 450 and magnesium is 1,500. Why should dKH be lower if we use carbon dosing? Many thanks in advance.
