When I was a kid, we raised a Holstein bottle calf, it was supposed to be a steer but my father missed both when he was banded, oops. Well anyway we also raised sheep (a herd of about 40 or so) for meat, this bottle calf became friends with a bottle lamb and they grew up and stayed buddies. Bottom line is our animals lived their best lives, some had names, and all that, we knew also they were meant for the table, yes it was sad. As long as you're honest with the kids and I can see that you are 100%. (we started out raising two sheep and I came home from school *4th grade* and they were gone without warning, I was sad for about a week) Frank could do far, far worse for a home to live out his days at and that is what matters most, to love and respect the animals humanely harvested for food. You've got this!

Chad I completely understand why you changed the name. And you 100 percent did it for the right reasons ❤

Doing my will has failed me in more ways than I care to remember in my early years. When you surrender your all to Jesus and ask in his name for God to do his will, the blessings will follow. When asking for God's approval, ask Him to reveal to you his answer and you will know when your prayers have been answered. If your content creations fills your barn, give back what is due to Him and He will not only keep your barns full, they will be overflowing causing you to build a much larger one. Learn that early in your life and things will go a whole lot smoother. Some of us got our grey patch around our ears before grasping and holding on to those lessons that has "always" been in God's book of laws. May y'all continue to receive God's blessing!

In all honesty, that is Frank's purpose in life. He is a cross that isn't desirable animal. That is part of farm life. I told my kids that every animal on our farm has a purpose most of them are for consumption. You have to do what is best for your farm. You do a great job. Keep up the good job

Hey Chad - good -stepfathers are considered "Bonus Dads" and the children are considered "Bonus Kids" 😀
@gabunnie1 Жыл бұрын
ACTUALLY, WE have 16 children. The ONLY STEPS we have ever had or will have are the ones to the front door or up to the next floor! We simply allowed our kids to call both Dads "dad" & both moms were "mom." So long as everyone is acting like a grown adult, this works, just NOT if the Adults are NOT acting as adults. There was NEVER a reason for the kids to use those words, nor did we ever use the words, Step, half, full, adopted, or biological when it came to siblings. They were brothers and sisters, period. My kids are STILL close and still love each other very much, as well as all of the parents involved. With LOVE, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE, AND EVERYONE stays happy! 😊 Blended families DO WORK!! I am NOT saying everything was always Roses, but it all works out when everyone tries to keep the kids happy & healthy, both physically & mentally. I hope this helps someone, at some point. 😊
@susanevans89 Жыл бұрын
I worked with a lady who married a man who had a daughter from a previous marriage. I said something about her step daughter and she corrected real quick. She informed me that his first child was her daughter too, there are no steps in her family and children are not to be walked on and that is what you do to steps, you walk on them. I loved that statement. I have friends who have blended families, they call the kids bonus children. .

Good morning (it's morning here in Australia) but I thought I'd mention that it looks like Lucy was limping a little. I could be wrong, of course, but just in case something is wrong I'd feel bad for not saying something. I fully understand not keeping an animal that isn't friendly. It can be so unsafe for one's family, no matter what the animals' genetics are, no matter how tasty he'd be to eat in a year, no matter how many viewers would be upset for Frank to be sold off, the ultimate say is Chad's. It's his family, his herd, and his (and his family's) life.

I love that you are all using the family name for the channels. Your reasons to change are golden, your heart shows and it is wonderful! The deal with Frank, comes down to safety first. Any animal that puts your families safety at risk cannot be kept close, if at all. ( I was born and raised on a farm so I get it.) Just like the aggressive rooster, and Tessie, either they become food or they have to go. You do what you feel is needed and if folks throw a fit, then it just shows their lack of maturity. God bless your family and thanks for sharing with us.

Having him on your farm allows you to know exactly what is going into YOUR bodies!! Nothing purer than home raised farm animals. We had the most delicious Hector-the goat! But then I was raised by a father that was an old school farmer who lived through the depression. It doesn't matter what those who can't handle the fact that you raise your own groceries think, you do what is best with and for your family!

As soon as it was obvious Frank was not full-blooded, I figured you would raise for food. Seems the most logical choice to me. He will have a good life and you will know what is in your food. Bulls and boars can be so dangerous! I'm all for your plan.

First of all; you are running a farm not a petting zoo, so livestock is just that. They all have a purpose or they wouldn't be on YOUR farm. The "Doss" family channels are all great and I love all of them. I'm just grateful that you all are taking us along on your journey. We need more people like you all in this world, so thank you. Chad, My dad was a doctor in Vermont. He bought a large acerage farm that housed my moms parents, an aunt and brother and us. We raised Holsteins for milk and meat. We lived on that farm for almost 25 years. Our farm was Nankee Colonial Farm and the name used on all the registration forms for the cattle. The area located was very historically colonial and the house was built with granite stone blocks to help keep the Indians from burning it down. The major commerce road was a river that runs South to North, used by traders and Natives. There were 5-6 Fortress Sites anywhere from 3-25 miles as the crow flies. As a kid growing up on the farm, I got exposed to a world unlike Disney World will never be. So grateful for the experiences and all the love from my elders. Cheers from Maine.

Chad, I understand the love you feel for your Grandpa Doss. My Grandpa Wood passed when I was 2 1/2. He meant so much to me that I have a few cherished memories. Not many, but they are very special. The feel of his flannel shirt, the scent of his cherry pipe tobacco, the pipe cleaner animals (only one per visit - they're expensive,) his gardens both vegetables and flowers. I wish I had a longer time but he was very special. My boys had their Grandpa Perg. He stepped up to be a male role model for them. My younger son hugged him tightly one night before dad passed and promised to take his sir name when he married. More than a few tears were shed, I know that he is watching over "his boys" from heaven. You mean much to so many. Thank you for sharing your family and faith so freely. (YES, my son and his children carry on the Perg name.) Dren

I admire you all and love the closeness in your family. It doesn't matter that you changed your channel name its still the same special family. And for the reason you changed it just makes it more special. Hope you all keep doing what your doing, I love watching the family and the animals. God bless you all!!❤
