Dot stabilizer

How to install and adjust a dot stabilizer. ( Please read all of this note, as I have made some minor errors that I explain at the end of this text note. ) The stabilizer wire is set here where its made; it should fit most vibroplex bugs with only a small amount of adjustment (bending) of the dot stabilizer wire. The tension put on the dot contact spring can be as much as moving the dot contact spring in 1/16 of an inch. Remember, though, the more pre-set pressure you put on the dot contact spring the less dots you will get. More pressure gives better sound and less dots, less pressure gives less desirable sound but more dots each time the thumbpiece is struck. Also, keep in mind, that most modern rigs have automatic shaping on the cw signals they produce and a dot stabilizer may not make much difference on those newer rigs.

Nice demo Dave.. I'll give that a try. Currently run the bug through a Curtis Keyer (it has straight key and paddle inputs) to eliminate contact bounce. Fernando N2FQ/6

I also use a relay between bug and transmitter. A nice old fashioned sounder clickety sound in the back ground also the relay removes the scratchy contact sounds. I am using dot stabilizer too.

I bought one of these for my Deluxe! Excellent piece of machining that has virtually eliminated my scratchy dits!

I am curious where I can obtain a dot stabilizer(actually several) for my Vibroplex Original... W0EB no longer manufactures them.
