Wisp and Treant?! Awesome to see you getting in some full support play. Io is my favorite hero and as a full support player here are some tips I picked off the gameplay. 1-When using ulti to get out of a bad fight and heal up at fountain, you should be using that 12 seconds to be looking for creeps to tether to. Expect for them to be camping your mark. 2- If you decide to rush mek you have to be careful not to feed early game. Personally I would suggest getting an Urn early instead.

As somebody stated he is both. In WC3 DotA heroes had two visible names, usually one of them the name and the other kind of like a minimal description. For example Gondar the bounty hunter or Balanar the Night stalker. He used to be named Wisp in Dota 2, they recently changed it though. Probably to avoid legal trouble from Blizzard, since wisps are creatures from the Warcraft universe.

In Warcraft 3, heroes all had a name specific to their unit type, such as Paladin, Lich or Blademaster, and an individual name selected from a list of strings when that hero was created, so two human players could have two Paladins with different names. This was carried over to Dota as a custom map, where the list was made one string long. So the unit Wisp, which was a hero, always had the name Io. You can see this in some other heroes, such as people calling TA, Lanaya or Np, Furion

Just to clarify, when wisp gets healed while theatered to someone, this person gets actually 1.5x the heal. That means if you(wisp) get healed by 400, the other person gets 600.

Other stuff to mention-Laning with atk speed carries can be game winning (Overcharge). Mana also transfers through tether so Boots of Mana / Soul Ring is a great choice. Obvious stuff-Leveling spirits first as support build is not ideal. Always spirit before initiating and then once more to harass/kill the retreat-er.

Tether increases regen to your ally by 1.5x, so a heal of 400 to Io equals a heal of 600 to your tethered ally. Thus, Mek is a 625 heal. 250 to them by the AOE and 375 via the tether.

purge, i would like to point out that wisp does not only heal his target for the same amount he is being healed, but 1,5! times this. so if you use a soul ring while tethered to chaos knight it will restore 225 mana which makes this combo pretty OP because CK is always low on mana. what makes CK+wisp even more insane is the guaranteed tether stun when using reality rift :) relocate makes this the most broken gank combo in the entire game IMO!

His name in Dota was Io ,its class was Wisp. It used to be called Wisp in Dota 2 until a recent patch.

Actually, the tethered target gets 1.5x the amount of HP and Mana that Wisp gets, not the same amount. So if you use a full Wand, you get 225 HP and Mana, and your tethered target gets 337 HP and Mana. A well-placed Mekansm heals the tethered Hero 625 Hitpoints.

The way I understand wisp in early game, is he gets free harass : time your minion aggro and denies, the damage you receive from minions will heal your carry while he farms so he can ignore more harass.

Ring of protection would actually be a good starting item on Wisp, as it allows you to lvl 1 roshan and generally have more survivability. Also builds into a basilus if you have mana problems.

An awesome thing for TP'ing into battles is pop your spirits and bring them as close as they can get and relocate right on top of somebody, by the time they've noticed you've already hit him with all 5 spirits and maybe you could tether to a creep, get a stun of and get the kill. That's just me though ^.^

yes. It pretty much removes the HP drain of overcharge. By far Wisps best late game item but not easy to get too.

I depends really on if hp is needed or mana because if hp is needed they will get 1.5 times the tranquil regen along with wisp's normal regen but if you get arcanes and you are missing the mana when you pop it when tethered the person you are tethered to gets the normal amount times 1.5 cause of wisp being linked and also the normal amount cause of the aoe

It stops the hp drain of overcharge quite well but remember it also drains mana rapidly, I think bloodstone could be a better choice and easier to build since you can get it in parts :)

Thoughts on getting a heart on wisp (if you are getting some sort of farm). He'll get a lot of extra damage since he's strength, he will have a lot of hp and if you tether a teammate in battle but stay out of it yourself they will have insane hp regen.

Every hero in Dota kinda has two names, Io is Wisps name, Dota 2 hasn't added the two-names yet, e.g Io - the Wisp, Lyralei - the Windrunner, Lina - The Slayer, some other heroes have been changed because of copyright reasons but Wisp isn't one of them.

Tauren Chieftain is a race and a rank. Elder Titan is rather a being. Valve can't use the "name" Tauren Chieftain because Blizaard actively uses the race Taurens in their games and it would cause copyright issues. His name Cairne Bloodhoof was the name of the Tauren in the Warcraft III missions as far as I know, so Valve can't use that name either.

Chen can gank pretty effectively and WD has a Stun, a damage over time, and a DPS output machine for an ulti.

The tether regeneration is not 1.0 but 1,5, so when you're healing 100 hp, the person you're tethered to is healed for 150 :D

Arrow has twice the range of Shadow Poison. :P Hook has a fairly fast travel time and doesn't have to stack to do 360 pure damage... Though both are very possible to dodge if you blatantly see them coming like poison. Poison is easy to dodge once you have one stack because you know a second is coming in a few seconds.

I was playing a good tech support through Purge's videos. I have almost every game to take tech support, since my team is taking only carry. But I'm only one support in team and hard for me to perform all the functions of a 2 support. Furthermore, distribution lines rarely 3 to 1. All this is very sad :( Sorry for my awful English.

Purge you should know that the person you Tether gets 1.5 times the regen so with a mek you get a 625 hp heal or a salve will heal 600 hp or Arcane Boots will give ~340 Mana

All heroes have "2 names" like Bane is called Astropos the Bane elemental (I think) so wisp is called Io and they just recently changed it from Wisp to Io

Rather than any specific instance of trademarking (I'm pretty sure you don't use copyright in this instance), I believe it is more about a good faith agreement between Blizzard and Valve, in which Valve agrees to use the non-Warcraft portion of a hero's name in DotA2, so as to disassociate DotA from them.

Your explanation of regen with tether is slightly inaccurate; a tethered ally actually gains 1.5 times any health or mana you gain during that period. So, using your example, if you were to use a salve on yourself while tethered to CK, healing yourself for 400 HP, CK would in turn gain 600 HP from tether.

you dont regen tethered hommies when you are full HP. Soul ring is awesome to rush tether/Spirits. Bottle is great if you grab overcharge early.

Yeah, so can Wisp? Those are heroes with the best support options. Treant can use living armor and leech seed, KOTL can perma-mana, and Dazzle can heal and grave. Those are all better than their gank/initiate abilities. Hell, Wisp is one of the strongest gankers because he can poof with a carry into your lane, do 500 magic damage + carry and poof right back to safe lane.

My issue with Wisp is that communication in a pub game is usually poor... It is not a good hero if your team mates don't do what you want/expect them to do.

Purge, doesn't the tethered ally receive 1.5x wisp's healing? Also with soul ring, your ally always receives the full mana restoration amount even if wisp has full mana since soul ring always gives 150 mana and buffers it if mana is full. Plus your ally isn't affected by the HP loss, and you can use it to cut your own HP if it's full in order to pull off some clutch heals.
