W/o question......Japan has the most diverse tram/train designs of any country on this planet. You practically never see the same tram design, which also includes their metro/rapid transit trains twice. It appears that any of their designers for trains/trams had their ideas realized. Amazing the diversity..... Thank you for this video.

Yes it's true the diversity is impressive even in their bullet trains
@RS-nq8xk4 жыл бұрын
@@MrWalker1000 The diversity in bullet trains is decreasing, as the Tokaido/Sanyo region are getting more and more N700/N700As/N700-7000/8000s

By far the most extensive tram network of any city in Japan is (arguably) Hiroshima. And with good reason: because the city was built on the Ota River Delta, the soil was too soft to built an underground subway system like you see in many cities in Japan.

There's a slight mistake in the video. Kyōto hasn't had a tram since 1978, when the city discontinued its tram services. What is shown as "trams" in the video are merely normal trains of the Keihan Ishiyama Sakamoto Line which, for a part of that line, do run in the middle of the road. That doesn't make them trams, though, since they're not used as such. They're still normal trains. Also, the station in the background is Hamaōtsu station in the city of Ōtsu which is in Shiga prefecture (as pointed out by ToshiakiOno in his comment), the neighbouring prefecture of Kyōto prefecture. So not only are they not trams, the trains in the video are also not running in Kyōto (although Keihan does service Kyōto, hence the mistake, I guess). Still a nice video. :)

Actually, there are some tram services, in Kyoto, operated by the Keifuku Electric Railway.

Does the light-rail system (tramways) run the narrow gauge of the freight and standard passenger services or the broader gauge of the Shinkansen?
@auxiliarypowerunit3 жыл бұрын
Great question. This depends from tram to tram, but the gauges could be any of those you mentioned. There is also a gauge, 1372mm, that was originally used on horse-driven tracks in use on tramlines today.
