This is my theory. Exhibit A: About AGHANIM Aghanim is considered to having such immense possession of magic. As we all know in the world of Dota magic could be addictive, being the grand apex and thirsting for more magic across time and space there is only one thing he should do. He must become the conduit of magic from all dimension but he couldn't absorb all magic there is. So he created compartments that can be used a extension of his power. His extensive research from different hails of life granted him a formula to create and magnify curiosity and at the same time bottled his thirst for more. He created a scepter made from pure magic but also an extension of his soul and being, we often see those blue crystals floating around him like it is a sentient being. The scepter is designed to give a portion of Aghanim's power while also at the same time drain the user of its power more like it has his DNA imprinted with magic that he can identify and steal and learn many forms of magics while masking the idea the user is granting him immense power. The crystals in the scepter are sentient and parasitic in nature. Those must be one of those (corruption crystals in SirActionSlacks Theory about Planetfall ES) but Aghanim found a way to corrupt it by his means allow it to alter memories as others used it they seem to treat it as ancestral artifact. Exhibit B: ABOUT RUBICK BEING AGHANIMS SON It is often said that the scepter could create false memories to the user making it part of their own. Given Aghanim is more of a scientist in nature and aspect experimented with this idea somehow configuring and altering its functions to a degree (knowing he created it the scepter knows him for it is sentient due to infused magic) but what if the scepter does not know him what would it do or make him belief it is. Aghanim must have experimented with that idea and touched the scepter and with that what he longs for was a heir to his supremacy (SON?) knowing Aghanim's power was too strong it was enough to make that memory into a reality changing the staffs very form to another conduit extension of his power but this time it is a living embodiment of him. Rubick. Aghanim's nature was to research and exploit the thick and thins of magic across different boundaries that's what made Rubick. A pure being generated from the combination of Aghanim's longing for a parallel of him (thus a son) and the power of his contraption (scepter) both immensely strong crafted a being to the world making him his heir. In much fear knowing Rubick may have the tendency to go insane as him knowing the adventures Aghanim had and all he did, he flee and when to the rifts of space and time to sought for answesssssssrs from the ripples of dimension leaving only a story of himself to a child that grew longing for his water buts at the sasme time the unending thirst for magic. Exhibit C: AGHANIM'S LABYRINTH The new summer event brought with it a random dungeon within it thousands of creatures of might and magic inside also the we find the presence of Aghanim. As you can see several heroes are often found in the dungeon and many likes of crazy creatures to begin with. The Labyrinth is filled with crystals of that scepter. I like to think it has the same nature as the (Omnitrix from BEN 10) we concluded that the wielder of the scepter, the scepter has a parasitic behavior to the user once wielded it could absorb their DNA hence stealing what form of magic and what magic is seeping in their bodies. (by his magic conduits sends all of them to Aghanim allowing him to perfect and study the magic without being there but all thanks to the scepter as an agent of extensive) Inside the Labyrinth there are familiar heroes and races. All scanned and replicated with the magic and dna that the scepter did over the years of it being spread across all fabrics of time and all lands of the realms. As you can see each floor design are subjected to the level that monster needs to strive their environment are curated to their likeliness. (much of a prison) that is why how many times you have to enter the dungeon the monsters and all are still there. They are replica's of their origins made from DNA structures that mimics the user and a magic that is so fluid it can copy almost anything. Exhibit D: Miscellaneous We can reference Aghanim to a movie character and this is from Guardians of Galaxy. (EGO) his seed could be Aghanim Scepter and with it can expand his power to a degree and his influence are imprinted all over time and galaxy.

First off, Dennis, love the content can’t wait till you get to my favorite heroes, Jakiro, Weaver, and Silencer! One thing that Aghanim and his scepter is reminding me of is Zelretch and his Jeweled Blade from the Fate/Stay franchise. The main thing is that both items involve the implementation of multiple dimensions, and their items draw infinite energy, the Jeweled Blade draws the energy directly from the parallel dimensions. While Aghanim needed to at least travel across dimensions to build the scepter to allow it to have infinite power, whether it also draws its power from across dimensions I am unsure, as I haven’t researched the subject. One argument I would say is I am unsure if the Crystal Dryad’s flavor text refutes Aghanim’s character. But that may be because I don’t read it as him regretting the creation of the scepter but rather he WOULD regret it if he knew. Or it could also be taken that he would have regretted it if he found out. Granted now that I type that last sentence I can start to see how you came to that conclusion. Best wishes!

I think he's having glimpses of time (like Tracer) that he's going in and out between dimensions which means as he created the scepter, he got excited and tried to test it by doing something impossible which is.. Tranposing thyself to other dimensions. The Scepter can handle the power but Aghanim himself cant handle the power surge thus creating an unstable spell.

Honestly looking at Rubick, it makes sense with Aghanims personality. I guess people had their expectations even me when heroes and characters in artifact hoisted him up on a pedestal so we assumed he was a serious mage-type. And if we take into account the Rubick is a creation of Aghanim, It also made sense to have a similar personality with aghanims probably configuring Rubick with curiosity

1. Aghanim is aware that the shop is selling his scepter but does not actually compel the shop to share profits to him: This means Aghanim would profit something else that is valuable to him. Since he is the apex mage, it could have been related to magic. 2. We all know that you do not need to be holding the scepter to have the spell upgrade if you obtained the level 2 scepter which confers aghanim's blessing, specifically the ultimates. Meanwhile in aghanim's dungeon, he provides shards that upgrade every spell and stats of a character, again without needing to hold them. This implies that the scepter or crystal is actually just a conduit, but is not necessary for aghanim to grant bonuses to a character. Also it meant that Aghanim has the ability to grant bonus to every attribute and spells of a character, but perhaps limited by proximity (the heroes in the dungeon are in the same dimension as he is but it is not the same elsewhere). Therefore, heroes normally have to buy a scepter to get his bonus as he was probably too far away across dimensions. 3. You may notice that his scepter appears to be sapping you and he could rob you of using your abilities. These are then condensed into crystals. Since each crystal holds a spell, we can assume that every crystal is a piece of a character's arcane knowledge. Therefore we can speculate that what aghanim is aftering is the arcane knowledge of every spell he deems to be potent, which in most cases are ultimates and that he would obtain them by allowing the sales of copies of his scepter

Wonder if when valve releases Aghanim as a hero, they'll make him super broken and have his Ultimate like this: ULT- Spell Lock(Locks the Ultimate of the targeted hero for 30 seconds granting Aghanim 20% magic amp for the entire duration. If the enemy's ULT is already casted before Aghanim locks it, Spell Lock will lock the last spell the enemy hero casted before their casting their ULT for 60 seconds and grants Aghanim 5% spell amp for the entire duration)

Aghanim was once a wizard like Rubick but better. He was all powerful and wanted to create a staff of endless power. When he made it, it was in a different form. When he held it for the first time, it turned into the staff he is holding now. What's the first thing that came to his mind? Creation of life through magic. He created a human from a doll, albeit it wasn't completely human. His creation wasn't able to retain much memories but he will never forget that Aghanim is his father. His creation became a strong magician but far from he is when he doesn't have the staff. Aghanim became for being OP. One day, he suddenly disappeared. Rumors has it that he died, but the truth is he tried to travel through dimensions. He succeeded but he was unable to escape. He came passing through the void everytime he exits a dimension. After a long long time, he was consumed by the mystical powers of the void and turned into this squid face. (I'm sure he met VS at some point). Those that can access the void are mostly purple. Some of them are Void Spirit, Spectre, Faceless Void, Void Spirit's student, Templar Assassin, and Dark seer.
