I think PewDiePie's current love and popularity has more to do with his meme status than his content (though his content isn't all that bad.) Having watched Felix's grow from 4 million to 80 million is an amazing thing, but out of the multiple videos he creates every week, I only find half of them to be watchable content and not cringe. Furthermore, a large part of PewDiePie's base is carried over from children who used to watch his video back in the day who have all grown up to around high-school/university status which would perhaps his cult meme status.

I think the deal with PewDiePie is simply that the people who hate him got tired of talking about it. They don't hate him any less, they just have other things to do. Speculating on why PewDiePie is currently popular without actually watching his content ever is so rediculous. Especially when you discount all of the things that people are telling you. I used to hate PewDiePie. I subscribed to him when I was much younger during his Happy Wheels era and I loved him. I outgrew it and thought it was cringe. Years later I hear that he's still growing but is soon to be overtaken by T-Series so I check him out. What do you know, his content has changed. I actually like the guy now. But noooooo. It would be a different story, if the opposing team picked Viper to counter Spectre. It would make your magic resistance negative and would disable the passives! Then pick Abbadon, with octarine his ult becomes permanent and with aghs everything friendly withing 1200 range becomes invisible! And finally Shadow Demon - just pure AoE instakill by setting current health to 0, hey, he also has illusions(if you make Spectre illusion it would have the same broken passive). Enigma's Midnight Pulse is also pure damage based on health percentage. So, they should have picked: Viper, Abbadon, Shadow Demon, Enigma and probably PL - just to counter Void, Spirit Breaker and other perma-stunners. You can also replace someone with Bane - put everyone into permastun or something by taking out all status resistance! There are some funny auras. I kinda like CM's talent that would basically make all spells on friendly team free! Timbersaw seems cool to - just loose all your stats and die. Vladimir's aura kinda good. Phoenix seems fun. I am looking forward into continuation of this.

I believe the transition in pewdiepie's public image is mainly due to the way that he changed up his channel's formula. A lot of the flak he got was for his "12-year old fanbase" that many perceived him accumulating through low effort gaming commentary videos, where the commentary tended to be overacted and reactionary and generally sort of faked. Nowadays however he's moved on from that style of content to making his meme review series among others, which are much more based around his perspective and opinion which many people can actually respect

Simply put, Pewdiepie back then isnt like pewdiepie right now. His old footage still sucks and felt like it was literally made to please his existing audience. Right now he makes whatever the fucks he wants and it's a lot more entertaining to watch. His editors are pretty much given free reign, as in that if they dont like something, they can scrap it, and if they can make fun of pewds, they will. I can say that I hated his old content. I still dont adore him or his content to the point where I watch it daily, but I gotta admit that pewdiepie pre-2017 controversy and pewdiepie post-2017 controversy has gained a lot of audience. The statistics dont lie, he went from gaining 16 million people in 2015-2016(getting about 8 million each year) to gaining 30+ million in 2017-2018(11 million 1 year, 19 million in the other). I mean, right now he is gaining a lot of subs thanks to T-series ofcourse, but he would have still gained at least 10 million extra subs. None of this is to change your opinion though, just a quick mention that people change and maybe your opinion on the matter is outdated. Maybe you still dislike his content, maybe you dislike it more than the old content. But no matter what, things can change a lot in 5 years.

He grew up and became popular from different things, but most important, is that he cares about youtube / youtubers and from hate towards him about different things. He's just like you, baumi. decided to play in another way of the current game. He is also trendy, because he goes against mainstream media and hq of youtube and twitch.

Baumi, Pewdiepie became a meme. People just heard he's bad and repeated it, they grew up presumably or saw his content to not be bad and realised he's not bad himself I guess. Now it's a greater thing where the biggest youtuber is against T-Series, a corporation who is about to overtake him in the number of subscribers. The "Subscribe to Pewdiepie" is a meme, but also a cause to keep KZbin top a regular guy and not some corporation.

a lot of pewdiepies audience came from after the n word thing, before that controversy he was genuinely awful trying to make more adult content but being a child etc. but nowadays he just makes consistent content of what he wants to do, and he did lose a lot of his viewership but the new t series thing and lwiay, elon musk etc his content is actually pretty ok. people stopped hating him because he made a drastic personality change.

Been watching PewDiePie for years now. I don't think that he changed drastically but a bit for sure. Understandably though since it's literally been years. The main difference is the content changing from games to memes. I think most people also like his attitude because he seems quite down to earth. People just liked to hate him because he was a bit cringe worthy at the early beginning but even after that changed people who didn't watch him kept that impression and spreaded it further
